Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

"And what were you studying at college? Or that you desired to?"

Because that was a possible thing he would know how to talk about.

[He leans in a little.] Has anything weird ever happened to you?

[Robin winces. There has been so much.]

Weird sorta colors my life these days.

[insistent]

The first two years are more of a general course of study, history, math, writing. We don't really start to specialize until the third year. I hadn't really decided yet by the time I dropped out."

[dead_tongue]

Oh, really?

[He actually looks more serious.]

That can be very frustrating.

It can. But I've got great friends to back me up. Except when they do stuff like this.

[dead_tongue]

Heh. Poor Miss Nancy.

I hope we've salvaged some of the evening, though.

[work_wife]

We have. So, let's order and be catty and all of that?

"If what?" Cheryl asks, eyebrow raised, tone gaining a slight insulted air to it.

"Are you implying I wouldn't have shown? I would have at least said no instead of standing you up." It's just not in her nature to shy away from making it clear she's not interested. Never mind this is not about her, but perhaps Robin's own caution, and it's not misplaced.

"I am here. And we should order. You!" Cheryl calls on the nearest server, not caring what they were in the middle of. It was their job to food for people and take orders, after all.

"We're ready."

Oh no. She offended the beauty. Damn. That's a serious mistake. Robin goes a bit pale because she's really upset she messed up so much.

"I mean, it wouldn't be a first?" she says nervously, her hands messing with the menu. "Sorry."

Never going to stop being nervous is she? Oh man. Okay. Okay, she can do this.

"Okay, uh, I promise that from this moment on I'm going to be less embarrassing."

[blossomingginger]

Wouldn't be a first? Oh no.

Cheryl reaches for Robin's hand on the menu and looks at her very seriously.

"The people that did? They're shameful scum with no backbone. And they missed out. Don't forget that."

She shakes her head. "Nonsense. You're not embarrassing." Poor Robin seems to lack confidence, well, hopefully a a little longer with Cheryl and some might rub off on her.

"I'll have a strawberry milkshake," she informs the server. "Robin?"

She didn't want to seem that pathetic but in the moment... she really was. Robin takes a deep breath and refocuses herself. This will be okay. She'll be fine.

"In a place like this, they're just scared of getting found out and that I won't be worth it. And it's fine. I get it. But thank you for saying that."

She really is embarrassing. But for now the server arrives and Robin smiles.

"Chocolate banana shake for me. With whipped cream and cherries."

Funny, Cheryl was also doubting the person she had been set up with would offer interesting conversation. But there was always hope.

Cheryl can attest to the meddling parents part. Hers in particular. She most definitely did not ask to meet some guy they know. Just because his parents are also well to do doesn't matter to her, though it sure does seem to matter a lot to them. They are intent on this match, going on about his hair and the possible children they could bear.

She almost wants to sabotage the evening because they're endorsing this man. She does send back the money with a note of, "Don't be insulting. I have my own," but that is not her trying to purposefully sabotage, truly. Despite the temptation, she decides to attend. If nothing else, it was something to do for an evening.

When she shows, she dresses proper in her signature red color, shoulders bare, with shiny layers and matching gloves.

Luckily, her mother had shown her pictures, so she knows who to look for.

"Genesis, yes?" Cheryl asks as she approaches, then offers out one of her hands, expectantly.

Cheryl's expression softens as she realizes, of course, Robin's right. She's been through that herself, but now that she's refusing to be in the closet any longer, she can't imagine going back.

"Of course. You don't always know who you can trust with that sort of sensitive information." She gives Robin a smile.

"But you can trust me." Cheryl wasn't going to let anyone find out about Robin.

"Chocolate banana. Never tried it." She sounds interested. "We can get two straws in both and share.'

[disarming_prince]

"Was there something you aspired toward?" he asks as he reviews the menu before him. "Not everyone aspires toward something so soon, but was there something that moved you then?"

[insistent]

That has her silent for a few moments before she sighs. "I did want to be on television before my life changed significantly, but I'd given up on that by graduation for a lot of reasons. I was just taking the classes and trying to decide what I wanted to do because it was the expected path at that age."

[silent_sacrifice]

Well, at least she knows how to dress. Genesis was more prone to a deeper red when he was allowed to choose his own garments, but that was something anyway. He seems happy with what she is in though. He takes her hand and bows over it, as a gentleman should.

"Indeed, my lady. And you would be Cheryl. I apologize before this starts for the tedium to which you shall be exposed."

[raisedtohunt]

"I can imagine a lot more than you might realize." It's light enough but he's seen more than his share of 'fast' things.

"So you like running?"

[work_wife]

The closet is such a scary place. Coming out of it is even worse. Like, it's even nerve wracking to be out on a date with a girl in public even now. But she's being brave. As brave as she can.

"I would really hope so," she says. "You know, all things considered."

It would be weird to out a girl you're dating with.

"Yeah, I could share," Robin confirms.

[quick_sass]

Does he like running. Pietro laughs.

"You could say that running is what I specialize in. I am good at staying on my toes."

[disarming_prince]

"And now?"

He nods at his menu and puts it down, ecbause he has finally determined what he wishes and is ready to order.

[insistent]

"Kind of figuring it out as I go."

[disarming_prince]

Which of course was not much to say to learn more of her with. Ravus, who was never the most socially adept as others he knew could be.

"Have you decided upon a meal?"

[insistent]

"Ah, yes. I was just waiting for you to figure out what you wanted." Awkward isn't as much of a thing she's used to, but she's also not usually dating royalty.

"..Have you ever wanted to do anything than what you're doing?"
