Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

[ Sigma would be both worried for Mark and relieved to know he would be aware if someone approached, but for now he settled for pretending he wasn’t just slightly unsettled with having his back to the door.

Luckily, the frozen yoghurt full of cookie pieces was an excellent distraction. ]

So am I, actually. I would have probably ended up at a convenience store later or something, kind of have a sweet tooth myself.

[ Ah… Waver probably shouldn’t be so confident in this, but at his current age… Well, the teen was sure they could do anything if they went about it the right way and put in the hard work. He was like a small, stubborn wrecking ball among mages and he was pretty hard to stop. One day he’d regret refusing to consider the limitations one might have, but not today. Not that he’d ever stop being a bit of a wrecking ball, though.

And… Well, he gets it. Which was why his voice lowered a touch... But was no less stubborn and serious. ]

I know it is, especially when everyone already thinks you can’t do better than they’ve seen… But that’s why we have to prove them wrong, you know? We’ll make them see you, so you can make it where you want to be to help people.

[ Standing out is incredibly hard, especially when the world had decided you were too sub-par and lacked the potential to stand among them. Which was why he often got into some of the arguments he did. ]

My sweet tooth tends to get its way out with hot chocolate, but sometimes you just need something cool. Something that feels like you're cheating.

[He smiles at the thanks. As for himself, he's quite pleased to work through his own froyo. It tastes just right for the day they're having. The date.]

Angeal smiled.

"Then at this point, it's a waiting game."

Noct nodded. "Spring rolls are great." With the fried, he doesn't really try to notice the vegetables. They're coated and he would ignore the insides for the outsides.

"You like those too I take it?"

That statement caught Dion's attention. "For your sister? I see." He nodded and looked down thoughtfully. This wasn't his place to question as to why that was, it was simply a fact that Ravus was conveying.

He then tried a smile as he looked back up at the other man. "Perhaps you will find one along your way."

[Leon smiled and picked up a glass of ice water that had been brought to them.]

[That had him thinking.]

I have not had the pleasure of seeing one myself in some time. Perhaps that should be put on an agenda for next time?

[Although strawberries made him think of Aqua. And he'd been looking at what was called French Silk pie.]

He wasn't sure what the look on the mage's face was all about, but he withheld another apology as his first one seemed to make the other feel some sort of way that he wasn't sure was positive. But he tried a smile. "I'll be sure to." Hopefully if he spoke up next time that it would make things easier. He wanted to help here and maybe that would be enough in order to do so.

Terra noted the shoulders thing and the sharp tone. That meant that a second date was out then, right? THE guy almost sounded exasperated with him and he wasn't sure what to do until Waver mentioned eating. "I can get it." This wasn't a challenge so much as Terra expected to have to work and do things and pay for things and not just sit back and let someone do all of the work or just totally pay for him.

Waver then mentioned paying for part of the tab at the end of the night and he nodded. He intended to at least pay half of it if not more. So he looked down at the menu and nodded. "I'll take the bacon cheeseburger, fried cheese sticks and chocolate milkshake." That he would start with and just get more later if he was still hungry. Of course he'd get the mage anything that he wanted to. But he was just trying to play it careful here and not cause the other any more distress.

That was never on his agenda.

Ignis smiled and sat down after the drinks were placed on the table. Manners forbade him from eating first and so he nodded.

"Where are you looking to start with the food?"

Can’t deny, hot chocolate is definitely nice in the evenings. Especially with something from the bakery, if there’s a chance.

[ When you can sneak away from work for a bit to get some time to eat and rest your weary bones? Sweets. That was his usual go to, anyway. The comment gets a small surprised look in his eyes, and a brighter smile in return. He was so glad to hear that. Especially considering he hadn’t been sure if he even got the right guy when this all began! ]

Me too, actually. I was a little worried about the whole… blind date thing, but I’m really glad we met Mark. [ Fidgeting with his yoghurt cup, he glanced up. ] Do you… Think it might be too soon to hope for another? Or well, the first of the non-blind variety, I guess.

[ he added with a little awkward smile. ]

[ And this was very new for Waver… Most of his classmates didn’t tend to take him seriously, either. So having someone listen and engaging in interesting conversation, as well as accepting his offer of help? Well, it was a nice feeling for him. Plus the idea that someone didn’t see his confident, stubbornness as too spirited or foolish, was even nicer. It gets a rare smile, rubbing the side of his cheek lightly. ]

Oh, um… I just really hate when people with potential and dedication to doing something get written off by people. But thanks, Nida, I’ll remember that.

[ Gosh, he had so much to think about now. Does he want to start with research and figuring out the best way to sneak Nida into the library? Definitely. ]

I’m kind of excited, actually. It’s been really nice to meet someone who gets this stuff and that I can work on things with, you know? [ Voice lowering to a small whisper again. With a glance ahead, he continued. ] Don’t tell Melvin, being kidnapped today for this wasn’t so bad after all.

[ because that would go to the other’s head and no one needed that. ]

That was enough for him, as long as Terra remembered to do so. If not, the man would complain and remind him of that. “Good.” He responded, expression finally softening a touch as he accepted the assurance.

Waver would be surprised to hear that Terra was thinking about a second date at all, considering how poorly the mage’s performance had been so far. That said, if there wasn’t a chance? Waver wouldn’t still be standing there trying to actually go through with the first date. He was very well known for turning people down and keeping interested people at a distance, so much so that his bachelor status and other related things were often a subject of interest. He could make an excuse to those who had set up the blind date on his end that it hadn’t been working and they decided to end the night. For reasons the mage couldn’t really explain to himself, he was invested in at least not ending the night in a total disaster.

A date with Waver Velvet was like playing hard mode on a video game.

The reply that Terra could get it is met with a roll of his green eyes and a small sigh. Like he both expected Terra to say that and that he couldn’t believe he actually did, how he rolled two contradicting energies into one reaction was unsurprising. He’s silent long enough for Terra to decide what he wanted and share that information, though, before finally speaking his mind again. “And I said I’m already up, so sit there and I’ll be back.” He responded with a stubborn tone, hair swishing around his waist as he turned quickly to head back to the counter. “Besides. I know what you want now, and you don’t know what I want. So it makes more sense.” He added over his shoulder as he departed, with maybe a tiny bit of satisfaction under the stubborn bluster.

Terra is left alone at the table to watch him go again, and when the man returned, it was balancing two trays. One with Terra’s order and one with his own. Waver’s own meal choice was a small BLT sandwich with a side of fries. Close enough to his usual preference when he was out and it shouldn’t be too much for him. Setting both down, he seemed to have pieced together a semblance of calm to mask the awkwardness for the time being. Who knew how long that was going to last, though?

“There we are, now um… What were we talking about?” His brow furrowed once he took a seat, trying to remember what they were talking about before the whole… food thing. Trying very stubbornly to get past the awkward, to act normal and not like a disaster… “Right, you asked what I taught. I’m the head of the Modern Magecraft Theories department, so I teach the fundamentals and how to explore new innovations for various kinds of magecraft in the modern day.”

Ravus chuckles and shakes his head.

"I see no need for additional tutoring at this point. I know what is needed to survive in the life I have chosen, and to best support my sister as her advisor and regent when is needed."

So he does not need to remotely learn more save what is taught to him by those he works with. That is fine for him.

"I am quite fond of many forms of food," Genesis noted as he picked out another few small nibbles. The issue with a Soldier was always their increased appetites. He'd need more if he was going to be satisfied with a single entree.

"But in many ways it's the quality that matters over the specific items."

Then of course we shall have to have a slice or two.

[Or three. Listen, it's cheat day.]

[Rude chuckles at that. Indeed he was. A pinnacle of protection. But that was work and this wasn't.]

What do you do?

"Isn't that the way that it always goes?"

He laughs and looks the menu over.

"You good with something filling?"

[Nida leans in to whisper back, with a warm smile at that.]

I won't tell him if you don't tell Selphie. I almost feel like I'm the one that won out tonight. Meeting someone to talk to is really nice. And exciting.

[But he's really glad to have this time with this guy that, before today, he would never have been so lucky as to consider meeting. Somehow, for once, he was lucking out. And that was a wonder.]

"If you have not, then yes, you most definitely should see to making time for it. You will be quite entertainined by the acts."

"Um, is there a proper point to start?" he asks. Because he doesn't want to do this wrong and upset the guy. But it all looks so damn good!

I don't tend to hit up bakeries as much, so I wouldn't know. I just go with the chocolate myself.

[Though he does smile at the idea of another.]

Yes. A non-blind one. That would be nice. Just you and me and maybe a place we like rather than one people set up for us.

[ And it’s so weird to think someone else would even decide that about him. It felt really nice for a change! ]

Deal, she won’t hear it from me.

[ At least Waver was pretty sure they were too busy talking quietly about their own things to notice… He thought. He’s kind of disappointed that they’re almost as the dorms for the spiritual evocation department, though he’d be a bit too awkward to admit that. The teen tilted his head back to Nida again though, curious, as he tried to map out a plan in his head. ]

Are you guys free on weekends? Or do you have extra training classes and stuff, might be easy to figure out a meeting time ahead of schedule if you have a time where you’re not already going to be looked for by the academy.
