Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

Oh man, right for the 'tell me about you' questions. Those always make me feel nervous. I feel like I don't measure up. But...

[He uses, thinks, considers, then nods.]

Well, first and foremost, I'm an artist. Photographer actually. Went to school for it and everything. I mostly do freelance work at this point, with far too many weddings sprinkled in, and I'm working on enough for a proper gallery show.

[Why would she need to watch someone else during the play? The person would be there and watching the play as well. Well, it didn't matter. They probably wouldn't have a seat that could see the mentor or whatever. It will be fine.]

A play is often really fun. Very different from a movie because it's all live and right there in front of you. Makes everything feel so much more immediate.

[Ah, there he was. Pietro was comforted by an answer that quickly. He moved immediately to the other man, giving him a look up and down as he comes to sit next to him.]

I am not given to drinking as much. It is not always the wisest for me.

[He extends his hand out toward Dean.]

[Military academies, they were a whole ass thing when it came to certain topics, weren't they? And Selphie was a top student in that area. Better not to trigger an idea in her.]

See, that's what I expected out of guys from your school. Really smart. And yeah, I might pick at it some. Of course for every half cup of extra fries I have to do so many crunches. I'm going to be so sore tomorrow.

[But with Waver standing Nida nods, his eyes immediately turning toward Selphie's table.]

I promise I'll take care of it. Guess it probably helps that I've already completed the first aid and field medic electives at school. She'll take it a bit more seriously. Hopefully.

Oh yeah, that's the proper reaction. Billy grins and turns with a nod.

"Don't got to know much to appreciate my baby," he promises as he weaves between arcade cabinets toward the door. This place was literally set up to make it harder to get out, to make it easier to spend money. It was annoying.

Ah, someone approaching. Clint smiles and nods to them. This must be her then. He offers a hand right on out, even as his free hand tosses the next ball deftly, and accurately, down the ramp and into that same high point pot.

"Definitely Clint. Nice to meet you, Hayley."

"Then you definitely have to show me."

Maybe Nick is a little more used to the arcade, or it's not one of the things that incites his temper, as he doesn't seem to mind weaving through to the exit with ease, despite his frame.

He remains excited and holds the door open for Billy when he gets to it.

Oh Billy slips through the door with a smile yeah, there's his baby. Front and center. Beautiful. Shining in the evening light and the lights of the arcade. A gorgeous piece of machinery.

"Put a lot of time in keeping her pristine."

[ Dean eyes his hand for a moment before shaking it, figuring best to just go along with it for now before gesturing him to sit. ]


I'm sure they have water and other options as well if you're not into alcohol.

"Nice to meet you too." She answers, half automatic pleasantry as she watches him throw the ball.

"Not my game of choice, but you're pretty good at it." She didn't really do arcades much anymore due to lack of time, but they could be fun.

Not particularly. Drink whatever you want, I just prefer beer.

"Anything with accuracy," he says with a smile. "I'm terrible at whack a mole though."

He does put his game card against the machine to get his wealth of points.

"So don't take me on where accuracy matters."

You're refreshing. I've had dates that are offended by that.

[ If he smiled a little at the compliment about being smart, you didn’t see it. No one ever sees that he’s smart, aside from Melvin and their other friend Camus. Everyone else thought he was a waste of space in class.

Buuut the smile shifts to surprise at the next comment. That was more exercise than Waver had probably done in any combined amount of gym class in regular school before he’d transferred to the clock tower (and he avoided the combat training grounds altogether)!! Seriously, he’s 5’1” and built like a twig. Forgive his shock at the very idea. ]

That much for just some fries?? That sounds exhausting! Can’t you like… Take a break sometimes?

[ Well, at least one other person wasn’t about to panic or get squeamish about some blood, right? At least in theory… Waver still hoped it wasn’t an issue. ]

Thanks, that’s uh… Actually good to know. I’ll be right back, shout if there’s a disaster.

[ O-oh, was that a bad question to ask on a date? Well, he can’t take it back now… And he’s still genuinely interested. Getting to know someone is nice sometimes. The normal way. Not by taking, not by hours of research and memorization. Just talking with nothing serious going on. ]

I don’t think you should be worried about not measuring up. [ He offered with a charming, but genuine little grin before taking a sip from his drink. The man considered the information carefully. An artist, a photographer at that? He hadn’t met one before. Other artists, yes, but not a photographer. ] I’ve never studied photography before, but for an art form must be an interesting medium, I think? Though I imagine weddings must be a bit chaotic to photo, so many different kinds of people wanting that perfect day.

Is there a subject you prefer to photograph?

[ He really was interested in hearing too. Learning about people’s talents and interests was always fascinating. Besides… if the questions are turned in his direction? He’s not sure what he would have to pull from for comparison. Three years hadn’t been a lot of time to gain much in the way of interests or personal hobbies. ]

[ Nothing ever goes the way it’s supposed to, Robin. Last time she went on a girls’ shopping day with friends, they ended up trapped in the mall by way of an over-active magical security system. ]

I hadn’t thought of it that way, but it must! [ She smiled sweetly, turning the explanation over in her head carefully. She doesn’t always feel particularly clever compared to everyone else, but she thinks she knows what Robin means. ] It must be challenging for the actors, knowing there’s no doing a scene over compared to movies.

[Dude doesn't even get who his friend is dating, did he? Nida chuckles just a little as he downs some fries.]

I know we're not in the blue and silvers, but you do know just where Selphie and I are students, right? We're Garden cadets.

[Which made them sorta military, sorta mercenary, and partially trained mages at that.]

So breaks really aren't all that likely, you know? It's intense training. But go ahead, get your food. I'll monitor for negative results.

I think they practice a LOT more than actors in movies. Like, multiple times daily well before they're ready for people. It's pretty interesting actually, how it all gets put together.

[She's getting a bit more excited about this.]

I hope you like it. This theater is supposed to be really quality.

[The guy does seem interested, and that makes him smile. Mark sips at his drink before he continues.]

Weddings are the worst, but also so important for finances most of the time. I'd rather not to have to do them. People are so fucking manic over it. And so I'd rather not do it. As for what I like...

[He gestures to a big shot along another wall, a black and white shot of a cityscape.]

I love buildings. A lot. They look so good.

[ He offered a sympathetic smile to that. Dealing with difficult people could be a hell of a time, let alone those who wanted their day picture perfect. The thing’s one had to put up with to pay the bills, unfortunately... His head tilted slightly to look in the direction of the long shot spread across the wall, admiring it for a moment. Sigma himself had often found himself looking at buildings, or old homes, and admiring them for his own reasons. ]

Some buildings are beautiful to look at. I can imagine they’d make interesting subjects to capture depending on the lighting and angles. Not to mention the way the different styles may mesh on a street?

You seem to know a lot about them. Have you been to many plays before?

[ The excitement is admittedly infectious, and it helps Gray to focus a little less on her nerves and perceived shortcomings to see Robin getting into it! ]

It sounds like a lot of fun, and it’s exciting since I’ve never seen one before, so I really look forward to seeing it when they start!

I mean, my school does some? I almost tried out as one. But only almost.

[She had a panic attack and passed out. Not important.]

Alright then. We'll hope that it's good. It's one of the Comedies, so they're pretty entertianing.

[ Oh… That does explain it. Crossed Waver’s mind briefly at the explanation. Godammit Melvin and his fixation more on the pretty girl he had a crush on than important details! Now Waver was embarrassed, and there’s an obvious flush on his cheek as he responded with an awkward tilt of his head. ]

Melvin didn’t tell me shit… He just waxed poetic for an hour about this girl he met from ‘another school’ and then dragged me out the door mentioning she had a friend and that I should come along. [ He sighed, this was so typical of Melvin! He’s probably laugh about it later, too, if Waver brought it up… ] But uh… yeah, I heard a little about your school when I first transferred here. I guess that makes sense, they sometimes have sparring matches with our schools combative magics classes, yeah?

[ Annnd he’s totally making his escape to the counter, still a little embarrassed. The teen ordered a couple meals and an extra order of fries in case Nida decided it was really worth the extra exercises that Waver himself could not imagine. On the way back, he stopped to slide one tray onto the table Melvin and Selphie were at along with Melvin’s card, rolling his eyes at the very excited thanks he got from his friend. He just managed to dodge a one-armed hug thrown at him in an attempt to get him to stay long enough to say hi (give him a second you fiend!), before politely offering an awkward introduction to Selphie that he would have given anyway. Once that was out of the way, he made his escape and set things down at their table with an exhausted sigh. ]

Well they seem to be enjoying themselves, you were right about them being alike. Sorry for the wait.

Exactly. It's so captivating, and it changes so often too. One building is different in different times, different seasons, different years. It's wonderful.

[He's grinning because this is something he could talk about for hours.]

And trying to convey them on film is so hard and so fulfilling.
