Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

[Excuse me while I chuckle over how RNG has done a thing. I could definitely see Yuffie and Aerith having a hand in BOTH sides of this arrangement, perhaps with Cissnei in the wings supporting.]

[Leon waited. He'd gotten sassed to dress up, but he wasn't going to. That was, until Aerith sassed him that he 'couldn't go dressed on a date looking like he was going to go fight the Heartless.'

So he stood awkwardly in something of a suit and checked his watch again. Hopefully his date would show up soon.]

[Aerith was wrong. Rude would not judge someone who was prepared for a serious fight. Never know how a date is going to go. Had so many turn into bar fights. Rude, though, appears in his own common stuff.

Nothing like a suit, right? Says a lot of things.]

Squall?

[Leon's gaze lifted at hearing the name he eschewed. The man staring at him was dressed neatly in a suit and that had him briefly wonder if the other guy wore one all of the time since it seemed to fit him naturally.]

Who are you?

[More importantly, he wondered how the other knew his real name. What the hell was going on?}

[Note to self, don't do background checks on the people you're going to have a blind date with. And never trust Yuffie when she gives you a name. HE sighs.]

Rudolfo. People call me Rude.

[heartofalion]

Rude.

[Leon repeated this name, but he liked Rudolfo. However, he wasn't going to call someone by a name they didn't go by.]

So you're to be my date this evening?

[looking_sharp]

So it would seem. I hope this is not something which will be a probelm

[heartofalion]

[Leon shook his head.]

It's fine, so it's not a problem at all.

[looking_sharp]

[Rude nods.]

Alright then. Perhaps we should find a table.

[heartofalion]

[Leon nodded with a sigh.]

Where do you wanna sit?

[looking_sharp]

[His eyes dart around the room, considering. Then he gestures to a place near a corner. It would give them both some wall space to be guarded against.]

There looks good.

[heartofalion]

[Leon's eyes followed Rude's preference and nodded. Leon indicated to the hostess where they wanted to sit and were seated. Menus were passed out and ice water was brought to them.

He looked around and smirked.]

Great choice. Can see just about everything from where we are.

[looking_sharp]

Smart man, to notice.

[But yes, that's why he chose it. It's a good place, he feels secure, and he can glance around the room. Then he's removing his sunglasses. Normally he keeps them on to hide some of the expressiveness of his eyes, but that feels wrong here and now.]

[heartofalion]

[There was a slight smile, but very slight because he wasn't sure if it was a compliment or what. But the smile went to a surprised face because somehow he wasn't expecting the man to have removed this sunglasses. The guy was even better looking this way and Leon nodded in silent approval.]

Sitting here has a good advantage. Have to remember that for the future.

You seemed the sort to be concerned about such things.

[It went without saying Rude was the sort as well. It wasn't like those gloves he was wearing were just for fashion. Anyone who might work with combatants that used their hands would easily see they're meant for fighting. Hell, Rude got his at the same place as Tifa. Not because they knew each other of course, just because it was a good shop for such things.]

[heartofalion]

[He nodded.]

It helps to be able to see if someone's approaching or not.

[Leon paused.]

But it seems as if you're the same way.

[This guy looked like a bouncer or some sort of security guard. And while he wasn't sure what the nice suit was about, he didn't think that those gloves were for show.]

[looking_sharp]

I work in security. Bodyguard most often.

[Which is a highly abbreviated and inaccurate answer, but it works for now.]

Such considerations are part of my work.

[heartofalion]

[Leon folded his arms across his chest and half snickered amusedly.]

Why am I not surprised that something like that is your line of work?

[looking_sharp]

[Really? Rude raises a hand to count off on his fingers.]

The manner of dress, the sunglasses, the situational and environmental awareness, and likely the stern mien. It all goes with the work.

[heartofalion]

[Leon makes a 'hmph' noise and sits back.]


Almost feel bad for whoever you face off against.

[looking_sharp]

[Rude chuckles. He's not really that interesting.]

My job is to bet between them and those I protect. It's all I can do.

[heartofalion]

You must be one hell of a protector then.

[Leon smiled and picked up a glass of ice water that had been brought to them.]

[looking_sharp]

[Rude chuckles at that. Indeed he was. A pinnacle of protection. But that was work and this wasn't.]

What do you do?

[heartofalion]

[Inwardly Leon was keeping score that he'd made the guy chuckle. It was a nice sound. But he just shrugged.]

I help with the restoration of a town. It's been pretty badly damaged, so my team and I are working on repairing it.

[looking_sharp]

[A highly damaged town. For a moment Rude looks... uncomfortable. Was it Shinra that had done the damage? Would that ruin things for them?]

That is a lofty purpose. I wish you success with the restoration.
