Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

You seemed the sort to be concerned about such things.

[It went without saying Rude was the sort as well. It wasn't like those gloves he was wearing were just for fashion. Anyone who might work with combatants that used their hands would easily see they're meant for fighting. Hell, Rude got his at the same place as Tifa. Not because they knew each other of course, just because it was a good shop for such things.]

[He nodded.]

It helps to be able to see if someone's approaching or not.

[Leon paused.]

But it seems as if you're the same way.

[This guy looked like a bouncer or some sort of security guard. And while he wasn't sure what the nice suit was about, he didn't think that those gloves were for show.]

I work in security. Bodyguard most often.

[Which is a highly abbreviated and inaccurate answer, but it works for now.]

Such considerations are part of my work.

[Leon folded his arms across his chest and half snickered amusedly.]

Why am I not surprised that something like that is your line of work?

[looking_sharp]

[Really? Rude raises a hand to count off on his fingers.]

The manner of dress, the sunglasses, the situational and environmental awareness, and likely the stern mien. It all goes with the work.

[Leon makes a 'hmph' noise and sits back.]


Almost feel bad for whoever you face off against.

[looking_sharp]

[Rude chuckles. He's not really that interesting.]

My job is to bet between them and those I protect. It's all I can do.

[heartofalion]

You must be one hell of a protector then.

[Leon smiled and picked up a glass of ice water that had been brought to them.]

[Rude chuckles at that. Indeed he was. A pinnacle of protection. But that was work and this wasn't.]

What do you do?

[heartofalion]

[Inwardly Leon was keeping score that he'd made the guy chuckle. It was a nice sound. But he just shrugged.]

I help with the restoration of a town. It's been pretty badly damaged, so my team and I are working on repairing it.

[looking_sharp]

[A highly damaged town. For a moment Rude looks... uncomfortable. Was it Shinra that had done the damage? Would that ruin things for them?]

That is a lofty purpose. I wish you success with the restoration.

[heartofalion]

[Leon set down his glass of water after taking a sip.]

Thanks. We're working on it and things like that just take time to repair.

[looking_sharp]

A lot of things take time. Sometimes more than we anticipate.

[Not that Rude's ever really built anything in his life.]

[heartofalion]

[Leon nodded.]

True. There's been a lot of unforeseen delays but that's what happens.

[looking_sharp]

Could you give me an example of one? That you're dealing with?

[Maybe Rude can quietly clear it up for him.]

[heartofalion]

[He sighed.]

Almost had half the bailey collapse the other day. Front gate still needs a ton of work too.

[looking_sharp]

That would be frustrating.

[If only Rude knew any way to help with that.]

[heartofalion]

[He shrugged.]

We'll get it fixed. But I'll bet you have that sort of attitude doing what you do.

[looking_sharp]

Sort of attitude? I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

[heartofalion]

{He shook his head.]

Fixing things I mean, getting everything sorted out.

[looking_sharp]

Ah. Yes. It is inherently necessary in my line of work.

[So much more than Leon could know. In a way Rude's job description could be 'professional problem fixer'.]

[heartofalion]

[There was a smirk.]

Kinda figured I was on the right track.

[looking_sharp]

[That smirk is actually quite interesting in his book, and he smiles back at it. This guy is a bit charming, isn't he?]

You've got to wow people with a look like that.

[heartofalion]

[He had a comeback for that, he really did. But instead he gave a small satisfied smile.]

Not really interested in wowing other people.

[Just this guy.]
