Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

Huh? I mean, uh… [ An awkward little tilt of his head. Most people don’t consider him particularly reasonable, so that’s a new one. Not that he’s incapable of it, it’s just sometimes he digs his heels in on things. ] Just seems better than to leave you wandering around for ages just to find something when you aren’t familiar with the place.

[ Was rude, right? Waver likes wandering and getting lost here, but it’s not for everyone. ]

[Nida smiles at him.]

Race for books? If I get half as many as you in the same period of time, I win?

[ Waver raised a brow at that, ]

You want to make it a contest? [ Well, at least it’s not the kind he could end up in trouble over given his lacking ability… So sure, he decides, why not? ] What do you get if you win?

[Nida smiles, widely. Yeah, that's just how it goes.]

Maybe... holding hands for a moment?

Huh? [ For a moment, it looks like he’s doing complicated math in his head. Because yeah, he didn’t expect that. There might even be a brief moment where he wondered why Nida would want to hold his hand, but also… maybe it would be cool to just hold his hand… ]

O-oh, yeah. If you, um… think that would be worth winning for.

[Nida smiles, because that was a really cute reaction.]

You're sure it would be okay? Because that's a really big possible prize for me.

[ Yeah, his face is getting more red. Glancing away hurriedly as he definitely tries to hide that, trying to look like the ever-professional student double checking his list. ]

I mean, I guess, yeah? You have to actually win first though, you um, know?

[ You have him stumbling over his words here. Good job. ]

And what do you get if you win?

[He's smiling because hey, he doesn't mind losing if he can get the guy to want the same thing.]

[ Yeah, he hadn’t thought of this particular point to the contest. It would be weird to say he wanted the same thing, though, right? Because then it wasn’t really a contest, it just made the challenge pointless. He seems to be mulling this over in his head for a moment or two before he finally flustered a bit as he walked towards the shelves. ]

I-I’ll tell you if I win, yeah? Come on, we’ve got books to find!

[ He has realized, not for the first time, that he’s entirely out of his depth with this whole thing. Not the books or the studying or the theorizing over Nida’s GF summons, of course… Just with Nida in general. ]

Wow, that's a way to approach it.

[He laughs and shakes his head. But he'll definitely manage to push himself for it.]

[The smile he offers is warm and genuine, but he's also intending to win, so he rushes off to go about it.]

Y-yeah, same to you!

[ He’d like to say Nida needed the luck more than him considering Waver knew this space better than most people… But he wasn’t about to write off the other’s chances just because of that. So he fixed his attention on the list and hurried in the direction of the nearest book. ]

[Oh, Waver had an advantage, definitely. Nida had a drive though. Because he wants his reward. Which Waver hadn't seemed too offended by. He hoped. But his attention is definitely on winning this battle. He runs around, trying his best to find the books on his part of the list.]

[ Waver was internally conflicted over if he wanted to win or not, which definitely did not help his focus. This was just all… very weird for him, if he was being honest. Still, he worked his way around the library efficiently, given he knew what he was looking for and the likely places to find them. At least until he bumped into Melvin and accidentally confessed to the current challenge and sealed his own fate to be pestered and distracted by the teen, who definitely thought Waver losing would be more like winning.

He was going to be such a good helper… for Nida to win. ]

[Points to Melvin. Nida, meanwhile, was working really hard at gathering all of the books. It was no easy thing but he definitely did manage to get it done. Which was why he was shocked to not find Waver at the table. He puts the books down and then goes looking.]

Waver? Oh. Hey Melvin. You studying too today?

[ Waver looks slightly befuddled, looking at his wristwatch as Nida appeared. Surely he wasn’t distracted by Melvin’s dramatics for that long right…? Oof, the time suggested otherwise.

Melvin looks very pleased with himself, admittedly. His eyes lighting up at the sight of Nida and figuring his job here? It was done! Mission successful! ]

Ah, Nida, it’s good to see you, my friend! Waver had mentioned you were here today. I am, but I couldn’t help but stop and say hello.

[ And Waver… Waver knows that tone, it’s too exuberant. Too excited. ]

[It's pretty bright. Almost like Selphie when she's up to something. Nida's eyes narrow before he looks to Waver.]

Did you find the books you were looking for?

Uhhh…

[ He sighed a little, looking at the small collection in his arms that was only about half as big as it should be. ]

I got about half, did you uh.. find all yours?

[ oh, yeah, Melvin is definitely feeling proud of himself right now. ]

[seed_pilot]

Yeah. I found all of mine.

[Nida's smiling just a little bit. Don't mind him. He's pleased.]

I think you're going to have to let him go, Melvin, because he's got books left to find.

Oh, that’s right, he mentioned something about having to find some…!

[ said innocently, as though it had somehow slipped his mind.

Ugh, if Waver didn’t already know he’d been messed with, he certainly would have now. ]

I better let you get back to it. Plenty of studying for me to do, anyway. See you later, friends!

[ Waver let out a long sigh, watching the quickly retreating head of platinum blond hair before his gaze slid back to Nida with an awkward hum. ]

Well, I guess that means we know who won the bet. Give me, uh… five minutes and I’ll have the rest of this stuff.

[Melvin, did you...? Nida can't help but smile at the guy. That definitely won the guy points with him.]

Later, Melvin!

[He waits until Melvin walks away to scoop the books from Waver's hands. He tucks them under his arm and smiles.]

I'll go back to the table and wait for you."

[ He actually looked surprised for a moment when Nida took the books he’d already collected before nodding quickly with a clumsy expression and slight blush. ]

Oh, yeah! Thanks. I’ll um… See you there in a little bit.

[ came out in a rush before he hurried to the next set of bookshelves. ]

Damn. He looks good with a blush.

[He smiles and heads back to the table with the books, proud to have had that affect on someone.]

[ Waver’s form visibly stumbles a bit before ducking behind a bookshelf. Yeah, he heard that. WHAT DOES HE DO WITH THAT?? Oh boy, the teen does not know.

Especially considering he’d uh… been well known for easily flustering.

He’s doomed with Nida, he thinks. Just ever so slightly…

True to his word, though, he returned to the table a short while later with the few remaining books on his list to add to the collection of references. ]

Sorry to keep you waiting, I swear Melvin is a menace when you have things to do. But uh- I think we should have everything we can go through.

[Nida's definitely smiling when Waver returns. Even seems extra pleased over mentioning Melvin.]

Oh, I think he's a good friend, not a menace. I could do with more friends like that.

[ Waver’s not exactly going to deny Melvin was a good friend… Or at least a friend. He’s not great at expressing those things, not really… ]

He can be, and is, both. If he finds the idea of something amusing, then he’ll invest his time, attention- and sometimes considerable wealth- into it.
