It's For Your Own Good

Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.
That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.
No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.
How to Play1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc) 2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead! 3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date. 4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

"Not yet. I mean, would have been a shame to order if, yanno."
If no one showed. She could use that money for comfort ice cream instead. Seemed logical to her.
no subject
"Are you implying I wouldn't have shown? I would have at least said no instead of standing you up." It's just not in her nature to shy away from making it clear she's not interested. Never mind this is not about her, but perhaps Robin's own caution, and it's not misplaced.
"I am here. And we should order. You!" Cheryl calls on the nearest server, not caring what they were in the middle of. It was their job to food for people and take orders, after all.
"We're ready."
no subject
"I mean, it wouldn't be a first?" she says nervously, her hands messing with the menu. "Sorry."
Never going to stop being nervous is she? Oh man. Okay. Okay, she can do this.
"Okay, uh, I promise that from this moment on I'm going to be less embarrassing."
no subject
Cheryl reaches for Robin's hand on the menu and looks at her very seriously.
"The people that did? They're shameful scum with no backbone. And they missed out. Don't forget that."
She shakes her head. "Nonsense. You're not embarrassing." Poor Robin seems to lack confidence, well, hopefully a a little longer with Cheryl and some might rub off on her.
"I'll have a strawberry milkshake," she informs the server. "Robin?"
no subject
"In a place like this, they're just scared of getting found out and that I won't be worth it. And it's fine. I get it. But thank you for saying that."
She really is embarrassing. But for now the server arrives and Robin smiles.
"Chocolate banana shake for me. With whipped cream and cherries."
no subject
"Of course. You don't always know who you can trust with that sort of sensitive information." She gives Robin a smile.
"But you can trust me." Cheryl wasn't going to let anyone find out about Robin.
"Chocolate banana. Never tried it." She sounds interested. "We can get two straws in both and share.'
no subject
"I would really hope so," she says. "You know, all things considered."
It would be weird to out a girl you're dating with.
"Yeah, I could share," Robin confirms.
no subject
Cheryl smiles.
"It's old school romance. I've never done it before, but I would like to. With you."

"I think so, too." So when the milk shakes arrive with extra straws, she puts the straws in each other side of the drinks and puts them in the middle, then peers into Robin's eyes as she lowers her cherry red lips to the straw and sucks in.

She's going to explode from the heat in her cheeks.
no subject
She grins as she pulls away from the straw.
"It is a good pick."

She settles back to ask, "What hobbies are you into, Robin?" A head tilt, because Cheryl can't wait to talk about herself, "I'm a Vixen. A cheerleader." Amongst other things she dabbles in, like witchcraft.
But that's a conversation for later. Despite wanting to say more, she does give Robin room to reply.

Most of those didn't even seem to realize she existed in her school.
"I'm in the school band, though I prefer orchestra. I speak four languages, English, French, Spanish, and Italian and I would like to learn more. I'm really big into movies, but more the sort that are trying to say something rather than just explosions. And I like learning about places overseas. Places I'd love to see someday."
no subject
"A scholar," Cheryl comments with awe. She drinks from the other shake as she watches Robin over the top of it. She only pulls away to ask more questions.
"What places would you like to visit? Clearly Italy and France would be good places. You could speak the languages. I would like to see anything in Europe."
no subject
"I guess I am then," she says with a smile. "Uh, a scholar. Guess I just want to learn the things I'm interested in."
Places she'd like to visit? Robin thinks of Operation Croissant and feels embarrassed for a moment. But she can accept that she's grown up and knows it'll never happen.
"I want to start in France, but I want a tour of the whole place. But anywhere I can speak the language is on the list. But the idea of seeing the world is wonderful."
no subject
"That speaks to a great passion. That's always admirable," Cheryl points out.
"France would be lovely. Especially with you at my side." Cheryl moving too fast? What. Never.
no subject
"I wish I'd met you in my sophomore year then. It had been my goal for the summer, and I just wanted company. Someone to go with me. It's sorta how I came to realize I was... what I am."
no subject
Cheryl sighs as she settles back. "I wish I had met you sooner, as well. I've known for a while, since grade school." She stops at that, pretty sure telling someone about a childhood incident that resulted in a couple of traumatic experiences, are not first date material. Another time, though. Maybe.
"But...how did you figure it out? You want to take someone specific?"
no subject
As for how she'd learned... Robin winces.
"I had that fantasy, traveling Europe but not alone. So I tried to figure out who the proper companion would be. And my heart sorta settled on Tammy Thompson. At one point I wrote out this list of all the things we could do together in the trip. It was on loose paper, and I was going to get rid of it, but instead I accidentally dropped it by the desk Tammy was at. Her friends found it and started reading it off and observed how romantic it all was."
Which of course Robin hadn't realized at the time. But hearing them all call out how it was romantic had sent Robin into a spiral of panic and ultimately acceptance.

It's humiliating, to say the least. To bare your soul like that, and have others pick it apart.

And it had been Steve to help her on that. She was grateful for that.
