Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

Is this alright?

He did not, in fact, know it was a date. This was a blindsiding from him, derived from good-natured meddling from his sister. To Ravus's knowledge this was meant to be a meeting with his sister, where they could eat dinner at their favorite restaurant, catch up, and just enjoy the proximity of each other. It was not often they were granted that chance after all.

Still, Lunafreya was... Well, not late. They were never late to where they were meant to be. Their mother had of course raised them to be quite early, which hadn't been a problem in this case because the restaurant knew that Luna and Ravus tended to show up fifteen minutes before their reservation and it would never do to have the royals just wait by the door.

"Lunafreya," Ravus grumbled under his breath as he typed a message out on his phone, "if you leave me waiting too long I'll make you pay tonight."

WHich was no real threat of course. It was just enough of one to vent his annoyance as he failed to notice the impeccably dressed host guiding someone to his table.

She wasn't even sure why she'd agreed, although at worst, she gets a meal out of it. She's been pretty good about keeping her head down more or less, at least in terms of her abilities since her arrival here. But Luna had been nice and a good meal is a good meal.

Still, there's nerves given she hasn't really been on a date since...

Well not thinking about that now, Caroline follows the server to the table, smiling as she approaches.

"Hi, I'm Caroline and you're Ravus, right?"

[disarming_prince]

He's a gentleman. This is important to note. A gentleman that rises to his feet and immediately takes the woman's hand to bow over it. Because there is no other appropriate way to greet a lady.

Which doesn't explain why she is here. Perhaps being shown to her own table and just wishing to meet him?

"Indeed I am, miss. It is a privilege to meet you."

[insistent]

That is not something she's really experienced much of and while it might have seemed over the top if someone from her own world had done it, it hits different this time and Caroline clears her throat before finding her voice again.

"It's really nice to meet you too. Luna showed me a picture before she dropped me off here." And the picture had been more than enough to get her to agree.

[disarming_prince]

Lunafreya did what?

Ravus stand there, his hand falling to his side briefly as he has to process those words. That is just a bit more than he had expected to hear.

"Forgive me, I fear that I cannot have heard you correctly. Lunafreya did what?"

[insistent]

"She told me to join you for dinner because she had something come up?" Caroline offers after a second, hands back at her sides.

"Is that a problem?"

[disarming_prince]

A problem? Hardly. It's just not what was supposed to happen. It was his sister meddling in ways that she was prone to but which would cause its own problems.

"Ah, no, it is quite likely. Forgive my shock, it is merely that my sister did not advise me of this change of plans," he says, trying to be as gracious as he could. For now he circles the table and pulls a chair out for her. It is only appropriate.

[insistent]

"I'm sorry. I thought you knew. She said it would be fine." And there's a moment where she stands there, watching him move to pull her chair out.

...Thank you for being kind. I can leave if you'd rather dine alone though." Since she's not the type to force her presence on anyone.

...Well okay, in certain situations.

[disarming_prince]

No, he most definitely had not known. And Lunafreya absolutely would not have warned him. If she had, he would not have lingered here. Now he was stuck by rules of politeness of society.

"Please, it would please me if you were to join me for dinner," he said, because it was something he should do. Something he should say. If nothing else, he was hungry.

[insistent]

The problem is she knows it's not the truth, even if he phrases it prettily and she's still for a moment before she exhales a breath. "You don't have to entertain me if you don't want to. I get it and I'm not going to think less of you if you want to dip out." It wouldn't be the first or last timee, after all.

"No harm done."

[disarming_prince]

"Oh, please, do not worry," Ravus says with a soft smile. "I have a card that is in a shared account with my sister. I would be pleased if you joined me so that you might order the best things on the menu and we effectively have her pay for it."

Because it seems like the best repercussions to this.

"What is more, I am loathe to dine alone. I beg of you, stay."

[insistent]

"If you really want to, I'm not going to turn down a meal." Not that she has to eat but it makes things a little simpler in regards to her other dietary needs. Caroline does finally take the offered seat.

"Thank you."

[disarming_prince]

Ravus scoots the chair in for her before circling around to his own seat. He does gesture to the server to ask him to refill his wine glass.

"You are quite welcome. Now please, tell me of yourself."

[insistent]

"That really depends on what you want to know. I mean, I'm from a small town in Vir...Well there's a country called America in my world, I live in a small town there when I'm home." Which obviously isn't here.

"I'm 23. I haven't done much traveling due to family concerns. I was a cheerleader in high school. I was in college for a while but I dropped out for personal reasons."

[disarming_prince]

What by the names of the Astrals, was a 'cheerleader'? Ravus definitely looks a bit confused by that one.

"And what did you cheer for? I have no doubt that you were quite adept at it of course."

[insistent]

"Whatever sports were in season. Usually Football and basketball." Caroline pauses for a minute.

"You probably don't know what any of those things are, do you?"

[disarming_prince]

Ah yes, unified team sports. But Ravus was not as familiar with those. He raises his wine to sip at it.

"That is not in my realm of experience, no. I was given private tutors. It is not easy to educate one my station."

[insistent]

"Yeah, we just went to the local public school. I mean there were private schools in the larger cities, but my town was pretty small.

Cheerleading is kind of like a mix of dance and gymnastics with practiced cheers, but the complexity really depends on whether you're just there to cheer for the other teams or if your squad competes with ones from other schools in their own right."

[disarming_prince]

"A strenuous sport then," he observes. He's had enough formal dance and combat training to know that the two things she's suggested are melded together will be very strenuous. He's definitely more approving of it now.

"Did you do these competitions?"

[insistent]

"It can be if the squad is more into the throws and gymnastics. We didn't really compete much though. It was more just an extracurricular for college. If I'd joined the college team, i might have, but I had other things to focus on by then."

[disarming_prince]

How intriguing.

"And what were you studying at college? Or that you desired to?"

Because that was a possible thing he would know how to talk about.

[insistent]

The first two years are more of a general course of study, history, math, writing. We don't really start to specialize until the third year. I hadn't really decided yet by the time I dropped out."

[disarming_prince]

"Was there something you aspired toward?" he asks as he reviews the menu before him. "Not everyone aspires toward something so soon, but was there something that moved you then?"

[insistent]

That has her silent for a few moments before she sighs. "I did want to be on television before my life changed significantly, but I'd given up on that by graduation for a lot of reasons. I was just taking the classes and trying to decide what I wanted to do because it was the expected path at that age."

[disarming_prince]

"And now?"

He nods at his menu and puts it down, ecbause he has finally determined what he wishes and is ready to order.
