It's For Your Own Good

Blind Date Meme

Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play
1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)
2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!
3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.
4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

The first two years are more of a general course of study, history, math, writing. We don't really start to specialize until the third year. I hadn't really decided yet by the time I dropped out."

"Was there something you aspired toward?" he asks as he reviews the menu before him. "Not everyone aspires toward something so soon, but was there something that moved you then?"

That has her silent for a few moments before she sighs. "I did want to be on television before my life changed significantly, but I'd given up on that by graduation for a lot of reasons. I was just taking the classes and trying to decide what I wanted to do because it was the expected path at that age."

"And now?"

He nods at his menu and puts it down, ecbause he has finally determined what he wishes and is ready to order.

Which of course was not much to say to learn more of her with. Ravus, who was never the most socially adept as others he knew could be.

"Have you decided upon a meal?"

"Ah, yes. I was just waiting for you to figure out what you wanted." Awkward isn't as much of a thing she's used to, but she's also not usually dating royalty.

"..Have you ever wanted to do anything than what you're doing?"

Has he ever wanted something more? Something different. What a thing to consider.

"I do not think I have. It was never something which I had time to contemplate. What can be expected from a man like me? Elder child, but always the spare heir. I was meant for nothing but this."

"Never thought about going off and doing your own thing? I mean, I guess it would have been risky, but ...why weren't you the heir if you were the oldest?"

"To do such a thing would be to abandon my duties to my sister, to my people, and to my nation," he points out. And he was not raised to do that.

"Our royalty is... matrilineal."

"I didn't realize that. I don't know every royal line from home, but the main one most people i'd know are familiar with didn't really think women could rule until they were left with no other option several hundred years back."

Really? That seems like an unwise thing.

"There is a gift of magic within the women of the line. They are great healers. IT is only such women, known as the Oracle, that may properly inherit. If I had not possessed a sister in time, I would have been expected to serve as regent until my own daughter came of age."

So he was never meant to truly lead. Just to warm a seat.

"That makes sense if it's tied to magic. It doesn't work like that where I'm from, but every country has their own government. Most of the monarchies wield little power these days, though."

Ah, that makes sense.

"Here the royal lines still hold great power. I believe this is related to the fact that we truly care. The Lucis Caleums have been in in power as long as the Nox Fleurets, which is over a hundred generations."

Likely they survived at that because they bloodlines that knew their duties was the defense of the people first. Though there were of course those in the Caleum bloodlien who were conquerers, long ago.

"That's probably true. The issues usually start when power goes to the head of the people who hold it and they put their own desires over what's best for the people at large. It's not limited to just royal lines though."

"Yes, there are places like that here," Ravus says with a sigh. Though he wasn't going to speak of the Empire right now. Not when he was trying to be in a good mood.

"What is it like where you are from?"

It's a bit more complicated. We have the Federal government which is like a big conclaves of people from all the different states under it's umbrella and then each state has their own government for more internal issues. Like some things are left to the federal government but smaller matters fall to the state leadership and courts. Because there are fifty different states." Caroline explains.

"I lived in a state called Virginia."

"That seems suitable for the governance of larger locales," he says thoughtfully. And more fair. Tenebrae was not the largest nation though. Not much larger than a city state if they were honest. Just the city and some small amount of territory around it.
