Blind Date Meme

Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play
1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)
2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!
3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.
4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

[Dion's golden eyes looked up at Ravus as the man stood. And for a moment he paused, wondering if something was amiss. Once he heard the report, he shook his head.]

And even if that is the case, please inform me as to how may I repay you for your time?

[Two men, frightfully polite. Wasn't this an interesting issue.]

I assure you that it would be unbecoming of me to accept some form of recompense for my own behavior. There is nothing gentlemanly about that.

[Dion smiled and gestured to the seat across from him.]

Then please have a seat and we'll see about sharing a pleasant evening together.

[Ravus nods and returns to his seat. Of course he does. He is quite content with this.]

Shall I order a wine to go with a starter?

[Dion is pleased and it shows, especially since his date wasn't deserting him. All of his growing up in the dragoons were fine for comradery. There had been romance among the ranks as well, but..no he wasn't going to dwell on his failed relationship with Terence.]

Yes, wine would be a very welcome addition to the table, thank you.

[Why would Ravus desert him? It would be disrespectful. What he does for now is wave for a server to join them.]

I shall order a white. While I do not think either of us to be clumsy just from first glance, the whites would be horrid to get wine from, and my arm can... misbehave from time to time."

[Dion is pleased that Ravus is waving a server over. A man that can take command, he likes it and nods approvingly.]

White is a good choice.

[And then he isn't going to ask about the arm, yet. He could play the waiting game on that count.]

Then we shall have to wait and see on that last count.

Of course. Now might I ask some things about you? It would be useful to come to know the man I have met here.

Dion nodded as he sat back in some semblance to find a comfortable position to sit in. "Discourse is a wise way to gain knowledge of another person. I have no objections."

But inwardly he wondered what those questions would be.

Ravus nods and considers the man.

"You speak as one of great education. Might I ask about that?"

There was a smile at first, which slowly turned sad. "I was privileged to grew up under one of the greatest tutors known in my home land. His name is Master Harpocrates. Although I'm afraid I didn't remain under his tutelage to my own dismay."

He nodded almost solemnly at Ravus. "Did you perchance have a master of the same skill to grow up under I wonder?"

Harpocrates. Yes, Ravus has heard of that man in passing, read a book or two of his.

"Not one on that level. But those tutors I have experienced have been those who were selected predominately for my sister's needs."

And that's just how it worked for them, given he was not the heir.

That statement caught Dion's attention. "For your sister? I see." He nodded and looked down thoughtfully. This wasn't his place to question as to why that was, it was simply a fact that Ravus was conveying.

He then tried a smile as he looked back up at the other man. "Perhaps you will find one along your way."

Ravus chuckles and shakes his head.

"I see no need for additional tutoring at this point. I know what is needed to survive in the life I have chosen, and to best support my sister as her advisor and regent when is needed."

So he does not need to remotely learn more save what is taught to him by those he works with. That is fine for him.

Dion nodded. If Ravus didn't want or feel the need to find another tutor or anything of the sort, it wasn't his business to pry or make any further comment.

"If that is your answer, then it is indeed more than enough."

He then shook his head with a slight smile. "Forgive my getting off of the topic at hand, which is I believe to ensure that we both sup and feast this day."

"From my understanding of the purpose of such meetings as this, being 'off topic' is how one grows to know another," he says with a shrug.

So clearly he 1) forgives Dion, and 2) has little experience with this sort of thing.

Dion smiled. Ravus' words were heartening because it was the Emperor himself that was sure he'd gone off topic and that was bad.

"I will keep that in mind. I suppose getting off topic can be a rather pleasant way to encourage connection."

Hopefully this was going better than he thought.

"It is. It can allow us to find connections," Ravus notes. "So we should allow our words to meander in such manners by which we will come to know each other."

He nodded. "I am afraid that I am somewhat rusty here on matters such as these, but you are indeed correct." It was an apology, as he hadn't meant to ever date again actually after what had transpired between himself and Terence.

"Then perhaps we should find some bit of common ground to meander to."

At least Dion had some experience in relatively recent order. Ravus hadn't been involved in a romance since before his mother's... passing.

Dion smiled with a nod. "I would most certainly welcome a chance to find this common ground you speak of."

He still felt like he was faltering here, but he was going to see this through.

Well then, they should work on it.

"May I ask, then, what it is you do?"

Dion shuffled in his seat although he actually felt as if he were squirming in it. Annabella's words regarding his origins shuffled through his head.

"I am the head of a force known as the Dragoons in my city of Sanbreque. And in turn might I be so bold as to inquire what you do?"

Technically he had Emperor status, but didn't wish to disclose that. What sort of Emperor slaughtered their people due to being weak?

Dragoons? Ravus pauses.

"Could you perchance know a woman named Aranea? She styles herself a dragoon, but I had not been aware there were others who were actively making use of the title now."

Oh, and he supposed he should speak.

"I am with the military."

See, they can both evade.

Dion lowered his head and tried to think. "That name is unfamiliar to me. Is she a friend of yours?" He was pretty sure he'd never heard that name, and unfortunately he couldn't ask Terrance. But upon the morrow, he would check the ranks.

If she was a friend, he'd definitely make sure that she stayed safe due to her acquaintance with Ravus.

And upon hearing Ravus himself was in the military, that made him smile. "I take it that you are not a fellow dragoon."
