Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

Ignis smiled over his shoulder as he continued to finish up tending to the flowers. "I'm certainly willing to show you how it all works if you're willing to learn."

And then he turned back to getting the flower food in the vase. The arrangement would definitely complement the table setting.

Yeah, most things like that are down in the tombs. They’re really deep though, and the association strictly limits people going in and out that might run across them.

[ But that was dangerous work, and a lot of people ended up spending their entire lives down there. ]

But there can also be things either created or summoned by mages that can feed off people. Or they could call upon spirits that need a steady supply of mana to be maintained. Generally, it’s supposed to come from the mage that summoned it, though. It’s frowned upon to let them feed off other people. The whole secrecy laws and all that, people suddenly dying of weird unknown circumstances or disappearing to never be seen again and all that.

[ And the mages that did cause that kind of trouble usually ended up with a hit out of them or the policy department investigating and dealing out a punishment, if not a full sealing designation. ]

The department Melvin and I are enrolled with is specialized in summoning, studying and working with spirits or dealing with them. Generally, cutting off a spirit’s food supply helps, or whatever is anchoring them to this plane. If it’s an out-of-control situation, the church might intervene too.

[ Then there were grave keepers, but Waver did not yet know of them yet. Although they dealt more with the ghosts of the dead that lingered for whatever reason. ]

Waver notes that it didn’t take Terra long to order, which was curious since he had to look at the menu… Absently he notes that’s something he used to do when trying to get used to ordering drinks in the first place. Pick the first thing off the list, and move on. Then again, Waver mused, if Terra didn’t drink at all, he would have said so, surely. So perhaps he was reading too much into this, and he wasn’t about to rudely embarrass the other with the question… So he offered a quick, affirmative nod. “Right, I’ll be back with that in a minute.” He offered before turning with a light swish of his hair and disappeared over to the bar counter.

The fact that his hair might be a point of interest was not something Waver ever really considered himself, it was a small nightmare to manage on a good morning and sometimes took assistance to get it into the silky smooth, presentable order that it was in now. The only reason he’d kept it this long was for the practical reason of hair naturally storing mana and being good for a trick in a pinch when he was on a case, and Waver being as lacking in power as he was needed most of the help he could get. So there would be some befuddlement on his face if it ever became a point brought up.

Waver could not tell Terra if he was or wasn’t supposed to be paying attention to someone’s appearance, considering he knew about as much as the other man did on the subject of dating. He could recite things he’d read on the subject of beauty and attraction from an objective standpoint, but actually considering it on a personal level tended to get awkward for him. That said, Terra was not the only one noting certain things about their date. It was hard for Waver to not absently note (admire) how toned the other’s arms were, but if asked point blank, he’d probably blush and say he hadn’t noticed a darn thing, dammit.

It’s not long before the professor is returning to the table, setting Terra’s drink down in front of him first before getting back to his seat. “There we are.” He ended, setting his own drink down in front of him to sip at later. So they had introductions, a table, drinks… uh… What do you do now? Waver glanced around at the Barcade and tried to think of what to say. Small talk, presumably, to get to know your date was where you started… right? “I hadn’t realized this place was here. Do you come often for the games?” That was a normal question, surely.

Plus, as someone who was… an avid partaker of video games, it would be nice to know if they shared an interest.

That what was my thought behind it, but we’ll find out if it’s true or not in a moment I guess.

[ He agreed with a hopeful smile, though he was at least confident that it can’t be bad! Stepping up as things moved forward, he tilted his head at Mark again. ]

Do you think you’ll get some toppings, or just the frozen yogurt mix?

"It isn't always easy," Teddy admits. "I was lucky. I knew since about middle school. Being open about it wasn't easy though."

Queer comics meant a lot though. Feeling accepted, feeling... seen.

"Like, it helps to see representation. Have you heard of Jean-Paul Beaubeir? The famous olympic skier?"

[His eyes dart around the room, considering. Then he gestures to a place near a corner. It would give them both some wall space to be guarded against.]

[Warren chuckles. And after a moment the server returns, with coffees. Not usual ones, not like you'd get in some coffee shop. Instead this was something carefully seasoned and spiced and it made Warren smile happily.]

I love this stuff. You've got to try it.

[But he's smiling happily and he moves forward to join Angeal at the table.]

So, you look at the menu yet?

"Please do," he says with a warm, welcoming smile. "I would be honored for the company. And I can change to a white if you so desire."

[Strawberry shortcake was most definitely on the list of things he desired.]

It seems they have a lovely fruit torte. Perhaps that, and a slice of shortcake. It would be pleasing of course. Fruit is quite good for you, as is cream.

Spirits that need a steady supply of mana... that sounds like our GFs. We have sort of a symbiotic relationship with them. They give us powers and access to magic, but we sort of give them a part of ourselves for them to feed and thrive on, when they aren't being summoned in our defense.

So I guess that means that potential SeeDs inherently sort of work in a similar department to you. We're assigned initial spirits to let us learn how to use magic, and as we get better we get paired with one that works well with our inherent nature. Mine is called Siren.

[But now he was wondering if some of those things Waver and them interacted with might sometimes be GFs like Garden Cadets desperately needed.]

Of course it would not. She smiles and takes another draw on the cocoa.

"Kree cities remind me of this place a little. But bigger. They can cover whole worlds. But our power comes from the ground in the form of heat, and from our star, and of course from carefully controlled nuclear reactions. Our buildings tower and are made of glass windows and they are beautiful too. But there are less growing things if we do not specifically allow for them."

Older then. Yes, I understand that feeling entirely. My older brother is often the same. Well, in that he is involved in my business. But he is often saying I need to meet less people. As for me, I am exceedingly exciting and excited. I bask in the warmth of your presence.

She's not sure...she likes that. But she isn't going to be rude. Which means she isn't going to ask how the power works, because that sounds... a bit like Mako, but not quite.

"No, I have not. But now I'm going to have search for him." Nick lifts his own phone and does just that.

It's coffee, but there's some differences in how they prepare it. And here it's the best.

They don't serve it properly to most customers of course. It's not got some special name or anything. It's just how they do it for themselves and the staff that are in the know.

Everything else is just BS. And Teddy believes that very firmly. Sometimes it's just better not to start trouble if you're not in the mood for it. Or not in the place.

"I don't either, but he was really famous for what he did. Won a medal, was openly gay, actively adopted an HIV positive baby and took care of her even though he knew she wouldn't live a long time. That's sort of empowering."

[Joshua nodded in complete understanding. Well that would give them something to bond over in a sense, but he let the thought pass through his mind, until he heard the less people part. That was intriguing. Although perhaps it was because Rhy was so flirtatious? And hearing the last bit had him laugh a little.]

I agree with your statement wholeheartedly regarding your self assessment. I thank you for the compliment, but I admit that I am curious as to why would your brother want you to meet less people.

The king slid into the chair and decided the man was handsome. But he couldn't reveal that yet or so he thought as he tried to recall every lesson on this sort of stuff that Iggy had tried to teach him. Unfortunately Noctis always just felt shy and shooed the lessons from his mind.

Idiot that he was back then, that sort of information would prove sorely useful right about now. And calling Ignis at any future point would prove he hadn't listened to those particular lessons, which he was so rightfully accused of.

Realizing that Genesis had spoken, Noct quickly shook his head. "No not at all. I'll join you in having a glass when they get around to us."
