Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

The king slid into the chair and decided the man was handsome. But he couldn't reveal that yet or so he thought as he tried to recall every lesson on this sort of stuff that Iggy had tried to teach him. Unfortunately Noctis always just felt shy and shooed the lessons from his mind.

Idiot that he was back then, that sort of information would prove sorely useful right about now. And calling Ignis at any future point would prove he hadn't listened to those particular lessons, which he was so rightfully accused of.

Realizing that Genesis had spoken, Noct quickly shook his head. "No not at all. I'll join you in having a glass when they get around to us."

And to think, Genesis would quite appreciate the appreciation of his looks rather quickly. There was no need to be 'proper' about that. For now he sits there, appreciating the look of the other man.

"Red then. Well aged and all the more beautiful for it."

Just like Noctis of ocurse.

Noctis nodded with a smile. The only beautiful thing here was the man here with him but he would just go along with it. Causing awkwardness wasn't something that he enjoyed doing. And first dates, impeccable manners and mannerisms and good impressions were all lessons learned in rote from Ignis as he grew up.

"Glad to see you found something good to start off with."

"Oh, I think I have," he says with a smirk as he looks Noctis up and down. "And a tasty dessert might be on the menu as well. Time will tell how hungry we prove to be."

Noctis wasn't sure how he felt at that look he received from Genesis. It almost reminded him of high school and how people were sizing him up for a fight or how good of a future ruler he would be. But here it was definitely different altogether.

For a moment, he didn't know what to say. He wasn't a smooth operator like Ignis could be, which was why he deferred to him at times to do the talking for him. That wasn't going to be the case here tonight though. So the king tried something else with a smile.

"Dessert, that sounds pretty ambitious but I like it."

"I have always been known as an ambitious man," Genesis says with a chuckle. How could he be or do anything less than shoot for the best? He was a great warrior after all.

"Would it bother you, to be near someone so aspirational in their desires?"

"Oh really?" Noctis asked, intrigued. Ambitious men weren't bad as long as the ambition part wasn't tied to something negative. And the red head's chuckle was downright endearing.

Wow.

The question had him smile and he shook his head. "Not at all. Aspirations are great things, and so far all I know of your ambition is dessert, but I'm good with that for a start."

He knew getting to know people took time and he was in no hurry.

Whether his ambitions were negative or not were really dependent upon who was listing them. Those that hated him were not likely to talk to his contributions as a scholar, whether it be of materia, literature, or even agriculture. No, they would speak to his work as a soldier then.

"Oh no, desserts are treats. One must earn them by... behaving. So let us start this properly with a nice appetizer. What foods do you like and dislike, may I ask?"

Noctis wasn't sure that desserts were treats exactly, but it gave him food for thought as the other mentioned behaving and starting this properly.

Properly?

Looking at Genesis, he shook his head. "I'm not fussy, unless you're putting vegetables in front of me. Other than that, I love food. Fried cheese sticks would work or something along those lines, if that works for you. Or you can decide."

No vegetables? The soldier raises an eyebrow at that. How intriguing. The fried cheese sticks does make him frown.

"Have you tried spring rolls?"

Perhaps that they can agree on. Deep friend, but some vegetables.

Noct nodded. "Spring rolls are great." With the fried, he doesn't really try to notice the vegetables. They're coated and he would ignore the insides for the outsides.

"You like those too I take it?"

[silent_sacrifice]

"I am quite fond of many forms of food," Genesis noted as he picked out another few small nibbles. The issue with a Soldier was always their increased appetites. He'd need more if he was going to be satisfied with a single entree.

"But in many ways it's the quality that matters over the specific items."

"True." Noctis replied with a nod. He knew all about appetizers and all of that while waiting on a main meal such as a steak or roast. And of course thinking about things like roasts got his mouth watering.

He loved food and was lucky enough to know someone who cooked.

"So beyond those, what else looks good?"

[silent_sacrifice]

"I think I would advise the prime rib. It is beautifully well done here. Truly worthy of appreciation. Hopefully it shall match the standards of the company I have at my side today."

Of course he isn't going to stop flirting.

"So you've.."

His voice cut off as Genesis complimented him and his face turned a slight shade of red as he quieted. It was really great to be flirted with and he appreciated it. It had taken his advisor quite a lot of time and effort to get him to recognize flirting since he was usually oblivious to it.

Words fumbled around in his head because people didn't flirt with him back home, but then again he stuck with his closest friends even if he was the one getting assignments from people and doing the talking during shopping.

The thing was that people closest to him knew how he felt usually by looking at his eyes and gauging their expressions. He was clearly pleased if one was going by that and the power of speech came back.

"I hope you never stop doing that."

Oh what a fetching shade of red. Genesis, a specialist in all the loveliest shades of red, appreciates this one in particular. It's just quite fetching.

"What? Enjoying the look of you? Appreciating it and being vocal to said ends? Would you wish poetry? I assure you I could manage with such an ideal muse."

The king was flustered, started laughing self consciously and shook his head, working on finding his voice. "You can do poetry next time, but you know how to make a guy blush for sure."

If he didn't screw this up. But it made him wonder if Genesis was just really into him. Not that Noct would mind that at all, especially by the sounds of things.

Does he? Genesis is very proud of this. He smiles to himself.

"Perhaps those men who are capable of so easily blushing are the ones most worth prompting it from. Truly it lights up your face in a delicious sort of style."

If he could just go hide in a hole or something whenever he got a compliment, he'd be good. "Thanks, it's just not a common thing where I'm from."

Noctis half squirmed nervously in his chair. "Glad to see you're so good at it though, the compliments."

He wished he could be that open.

[silent_sacrifice]

"Then it is quite likely that those people where you are from happen to be blind. Or at least too foolish to find their tongues to make proper use of them."

But he does enjoy the way the man continues to be so flustered by the compliments.

"Perhaps I should not lavish them so freely. I would not wish them to lose their power."

The red head's reply got a laugh out of the king. Ignis would more than likely be furious and arguing that just for the sake of rebuttal. His advisor would be no doubt be spitting out his beloved Ebony in order to retort such a claim.

"I appreciate what you're saying. But it's up to you if you want to keep going with them." He couldn't figure out for the life of him how to say that he was totally fine with hearing them.

"Perhaps you might wish to tell me whether you would enjoy them or not," Genesis says with a fond smile. Because he doesn't wish to make the man uncomfortable.

He smiled shyly. "No they're great. I'm just..not used to them."

That was the truth and there was no point in lying to this gorgeous man.

How intriguing. And how disgusting. Because that is just really that depressing.

"Well, you need not worry. I shall work to accustom you to the praise you deserve, darling."

Darling? Well that was a new one. Only Ignis used that term, and it wasn't ever directed at him, which it shouldn't be.

So he smiled. "I'm not sure you should trouble yourself, but I'd still appreciate it."
