Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

"I ask," Nick admits, "because I have a dog. Cats are lovely, though. I can only handle Nellie, at least for now."

He laughs at Teddy's answer, though.

"Smaller animals are good for smaller spaces. Do you live in a flat?"

"We live in an apartment, and not a big one," Teddy admits. Which would make a cat far more of an intelligent choice, given the whole space thing. Not to mention the needed degrees of 'independence' a pet would n eed.

"Tell me about Nellie?"

"A smaller pet is definitely better for that," Nick agrees, still smiling his eyes focused on Teddy.

They only leave him when Nick reaches down to pet one of the cats nuzzling up against his leg.

"She's a border collie. Very sweet. Sticks by me most of the time. She enjoys her walks, though."

[hybrid_prince]

"Oh, a working breed. One of those dogs that needs to be doing something," he says. Okay, maybe he'd researched dogs a lot as a kid.

[biactually]

"Yes. And very loyal," Nick says fondly. Teddy seems knowledgeable, and easy to talk to.

"What other breeds do you know of?"

"I'll be honest, most of them. I used to read books about dog breeds at the library all the time."

When you can't have a dog, learn about them apparently. It worked out for him.

"You might know more than I do, then." Granted, Nick researched everything he could on the internet.

"I only looked into them after I got her. I've had Nellie for a while now. But I do research to make sure she is getting the best from me. To keep her active and healthy."

[hybrid_prince]

"Yeah, well there are times when you're just happy looking into things that you can't have."

Like when he'd first figured out what he was.

"So Nellie was your choice? Not your parents'."

[biactually]

"Well," Nick tilts his head a little, "mine and my mom's." He smiles, tightly after that, and just - as his father has left Nick so out of his own life - leaves his father out of it as well.

"I was a bit young. But we both liked Nellie."

A bit of a pause, but Nick didn't miss Teddy's words. "Is it only animals that you feel you can't have?"

There's a gap mentioned there, but not one Teddy would push at. Could be the dad hadn't been invested, or that he was gone, or that it was like Teddy's situation where his dad was just... never in the picture.

"Not the only thing, but, well, sometimes there were things that just weren't in reach. Nothing I would really miss."

Nick and Teddy might just have something to connect on, another time.

Things not in reach. Nick studies the table for a moment.

"I'm sure we all have things like that. It's good you wouldn't really miss them. Guess you can't miss what you don't have." He gives a weak smile, looking back to Teddy.

[hybrid_prince]

"You can absolutely miss what you don't have," Teddy corrects, his voice soft and a bit sad. He's missed his father all of his life.

[biactually]

Nick's eyebrows furrow. He might feel uncomfortable bringing up his own serious topics on a first date, his heart goes out to Teddy and he asks out of concern, "Sounds like you speak of something specific. Would you want to talk about it?"

[hybrid_prince]

"That seems like a really big downer for a first date," Teddy admits with a smile. He didn't think it was appropriate. But that's okay. "Sorry. I'll be cheerier."

[biactually]

"No." Nick's eyebrows dip to Teddy's words, and he reaches over to put a hand over one of Teddy's, if he'll allow it.

"I didn't mean it that way. I apologize if I came off like that. I think...if it's something sad, a cat cafe with a warm drink, a warm creature to cuddle, and someone who wants to listen if you want to talk about it? That seems like a perfect time to talk about it." He cants his head in Teddy's direction as he adds, again, "Only if you want to."

Yeah, he wants to, but...

"Are you sure? It's really awkward. I should be getting to know you."

[biactually]

"It's a date. Shouldn't we be getting to know each other?" Nick asks, gently as he looks Teddy over, then reaches to the side to pet a cat that leaped into his lap.

"You tell me a little bit about you. I tell you a little bit about me."

[hybrid_prince]

"Alright. Um... I play two sports at school. Football in the fall, basketball in the winter and spring. I like the basketball more than the football, but it's something to do, you know? Of course it means I spend a lot of time in work outs during the school year until late spring, and then it's all about finals for the year."

[biactually]

"I play rugby. So I also spend a lot of time in work outs during the school year," Nick admits, smiling at how they have something in common, even if they play different sports. "I've had to work harder at my school studies. Especially maths."

Also? "I like basketball as well, though. Rugby is my favorite, though."

A beat. "Do you play anything else? Like outside of school?"

"Math was actually one of my stronger areas, though I'm best in sciences and art. I like to draw a lot. But shared basketball liking is pretty nice."

Play anything else outside of school? Not sport wise, but he's shy about this.

"I guess I'm a bit of a nerd. I've done a bit of D&D."

[biactually]

"I wish I could draw. I would like to see your art sometime, if you would like to share it." Not that he's limited to stick figures, but his art is not remotely close to Elle's level, and probably not Teddy's. Art's all well and good to look at, though.

"Bit of a nerd, yes. Especially if you're good at maths." Nick remarks, smiling at Teddy. He thinks it's cute.

"D&D's not my thing, but I play video games." He pets the cat that's settled with him, warm eyes watching Teddy curiously.

"I'd really be happy to," he says, grinning as he takes out his phone and starts swiping through his photoroll to see if he can't find something he's proud of in the moment.

"I guess I'm a nerd and a geek, and video games are nice, but I invest a lot of the time I'd use for that into comics if I'm fully honest."

[biactually]

Teddy starts scrolling through his phone, and Nick leans over the table, though he's careful to keep a hand on the cat and make sure it wouldn't be affected or harmed in the move.

"I'm not much into comics. I prefer the movies. But if you drew one, I'd read it."

[hybrid_prince]

"I haven't drawn any. I don't know that I have the style or story writing skills for it," he says as he passes the phone over to show off some sketches of a basketball team at practice. It's perfectly realistic, but it still feels like flow and motion in it.

[biactually]

"That's okay. If you do, though."

Nick's fingers might touch Teddy's when he reaches for the phone.

"These are really good. They're dynamic."
