Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

Nick's eyebrows furrow. He might feel uncomfortable bringing up his own serious topics on a first date, his heart goes out to Teddy and he asks out of concern, "Sounds like you speak of something specific. Would you want to talk about it?"

"That seems like a really big downer for a first date," Teddy admits with a smile. He didn't think it was appropriate. But that's okay. "Sorry. I'll be cheerier."

[biactually]

"No." Nick's eyebrows dip to Teddy's words, and he reaches over to put a hand over one of Teddy's, if he'll allow it.

"I didn't mean it that way. I apologize if I came off like that. I think...if it's something sad, a cat cafe with a warm drink, a warm creature to cuddle, and someone who wants to listen if you want to talk about it? That seems like a perfect time to talk about it." He cants his head in Teddy's direction as he adds, again, "Only if you want to."

Yeah, he wants to, but...

"Are you sure? It's really awkward. I should be getting to know you."

[biactually]

"It's a date. Shouldn't we be getting to know each other?" Nick asks, gently as he looks Teddy over, then reaches to the side to pet a cat that leaped into his lap.

"You tell me a little bit about you. I tell you a little bit about me."

[hybrid_prince]

"Alright. Um... I play two sports at school. Football in the fall, basketball in the winter and spring. I like the basketball more than the football, but it's something to do, you know? Of course it means I spend a lot of time in work outs during the school year until late spring, and then it's all about finals for the year."

[biactually]

"I play rugby. So I also spend a lot of time in work outs during the school year," Nick admits, smiling at how they have something in common, even if they play different sports. "I've had to work harder at my school studies. Especially maths."

Also? "I like basketball as well, though. Rugby is my favorite, though."

A beat. "Do you play anything else? Like outside of school?"

"Math was actually one of my stronger areas, though I'm best in sciences and art. I like to draw a lot. But shared basketball liking is pretty nice."

Play anything else outside of school? Not sport wise, but he's shy about this.

"I guess I'm a bit of a nerd. I've done a bit of D&D."

[biactually]

"I wish I could draw. I would like to see your art sometime, if you would like to share it." Not that he's limited to stick figures, but his art is not remotely close to Elle's level, and probably not Teddy's. Art's all well and good to look at, though.

"Bit of a nerd, yes. Especially if you're good at maths." Nick remarks, smiling at Teddy. He thinks it's cute.

"D&D's not my thing, but I play video games." He pets the cat that's settled with him, warm eyes watching Teddy curiously.

"I'd really be happy to," he says, grinning as he takes out his phone and starts swiping through his photoroll to see if he can't find something he's proud of in the moment.

"I guess I'm a nerd and a geek, and video games are nice, but I invest a lot of the time I'd use for that into comics if I'm fully honest."

[biactually]

Teddy starts scrolling through his phone, and Nick leans over the table, though he's careful to keep a hand on the cat and make sure it wouldn't be affected or harmed in the move.

"I'm not much into comics. I prefer the movies. But if you drew one, I'd read it."

"I haven't drawn any. I don't know that I have the style or story writing skills for it," he says as he passes the phone over to show off some sketches of a basketball team at practice. It's perfectly realistic, but it still feels like flow and motion in it.

[biactually]

"That's okay. If you do, though."

Nick's fingers might touch Teddy's when he reaches for the phone.

"These are really good. They're dynamic."

Oh, they touch, and Teddy blushes a little bit to have that happen. But he lets Nick look and sips his tea as he waits.

“I’m glad. I think, in the end, I want to do comics. Like comic books. With queer stories. Because, you know, things like that helped me realize who I was growing up. I want to give that to other people one day.”

[biactually]

Teddy's fingers are warm, and Nick's own cheeks redden at the feel of them. He looks at Teddy, but shifts back to the phone, quickly.

"That would be good. I didn't have anything like that. It took me a while to figure out I wasn't straight. And I had help from friends. Something like queer comics would be meaningful."

"It isn't always easy," Teddy admits. "I was lucky. I knew since about middle school. Being open about it wasn't easy though."

Queer comics meant a lot though. Feeling accepted, feeling... seen.

"Like, it helps to see representation. Have you heard of Jean-Paul Beaubeir? The famous olympic skier?"

lol, yes, you can!

"I'm still working on the open part," Nick admits, but he's getting better at it.

"No, I have not. But now I'm going to have search for him." Nick lifts his own phone and does just that.

"Don't really keep up with skiing."

"You don't have to be open about it, if you don't want," Teddy reminds him. "This whole 'you have to come out' thing that society has now is sort of BS. You don't owe that to anyone. You only have to worry about being true to you."

Everything else is just BS. And Teddy believes that very firmly. Sometimes it's just better not to start trouble if you're not in the mood for it. Or not in the place.

"I don't either, but he was really famous for what he did. Won a medal, was openly gay, actively adopted an HIV positive baby and took care of her even though he knew she wouldn't live a long time. That's sort of empowering."

[biactually]

It's not that Nick doesn't realize that's an option, it's that he had felt a sort of unspoken pressure, and until Teddy says those words, he doesn't realize he's doing that to himself, and he doesn't have to.

He nods his head, eyes looking at the table for a moment. "You're right. I wasn't thinking of it in those exact terms."

Nick's eyes scan his phone, and he bookmarks a couple of things to look more into for later.

"That's amazing. And it does give you," he has to stop himself and remind himself he's not an imposter because he's bisexual and not gay, "us, someone to look toward."

[hybrid_prince]

"Yeah," Teddy says as he tucks his phone back away. "Though I don't think I want to become the CEO of a sports gear company, or an olympic athlete at that."

Still likes seeing some people in obvious places like that.

[biactually]

"No. I don't think I do, either," Nick admits. "But we can go whatever direction we want. It's the fact the we have that kind of representation that matters."

He sees Teddy puts away his phone, and Nick does the same.

"So, you draw, you like tea, and animals, what kind of food do you favor?"

[hybrid_prince]

"Pizza," Teddy admits with zero hesitation. "I know it's cliche, but my family is from New York originally, and getting a slice was just... It was right, you know? It's not as good since I left, but I've learned to live with that disappointment. I've found there are some other things, like curry or mongolian bbq that also really hit the spot."

[biactually]

Nick tilts his head a little, "To be fair, pizza is pretty good. If I ever go to New York, I'll have to try it."

A beat, "Curry's pretty good. Maybe we could try a curry place, together? I mean, if you want a second date, that is?"

[hybrid_prince]

"You really will. The secret is that you need to find some hole-in-the-wall place. It'll be better. And if you can't fold the pizza in half like a paper airplane, then it's nto right."

A curry place? There were some here? He'd be excited.

"That's definitely something I can see potential in."

"It's that thin?" No he hadn't realized that was a thing.

It's not the curry place Nick is excited about, he smiles at the idea Teddy hasn't refused the idea of a second date.

"Then, I'll have to get in touch with you."
