Blind Date Meme

Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play
1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)
2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!
3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.
4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

I think I'm just going to live with the froyo for now. I mean, I already had those potato skins, you know?

[And he's mostly just not in a topping sort of mood]

[ Then that was what Mark would have! Sigma offered a smile in return. ]

Right, then I guess we have our orders figured out. Let’s see how they stand up to expectations, hm?

Right.

[He smiles and moves to order for them.]

I'm so excited about this. I only let myself have the froyo for special times.

[ Special times, huh? Does that mean this counts as special? Sigma kind of likes the sound of that, if only because the evening did feel special for all the unknown aspects going into it. ]

Yeah? [ And by his tone, he sounds very happy about it. ] Then I’m glad we decided to get dessert, it’s good to have a treat and nicer to share one with someone who’ll enjoy it too.

Exactly.

[He talks to the server through his desires, and gets two spoons for his cup. Of course he's going to share with the other man.]

Alright, get what you want too.

Right!

[ He smiled, taking his turn next and gives his order to the server, quietly asking that Mark’s order to be included with his own to pay. It was still his treat, and he’d be firm on that. Once he has his cup and a couple spoons as well (in case David wanted to try some of his too), the man turned with a hum. ]

This is going to be so good! Do you want to find a place to sit in here or do you want to eat outside?

[Of course Mark wasn't going to argue about who was treating who. That wouldn't be respectful to his date. The guy had said he wanted to, and that was all it took.]

I would rather sit in here, thanks.

[He likes to have the excuse of walls nearby and the chance to see other people around him.]

[ Sigma certainly could relate to the need for a little more security that one could find in eating indoors, or at least the hope that it would be. He did know someone who could use a kind of portal, unfortunately. ]

Inside it is, then. You want to find a seat and I’ll join you after I pay?

[Portals were definitely not something Mark was prepared for the existence of, thank you.]

That sounds perfect.

[Still no argument over payment, just a guy going to sit down at a table where he can see the door.]

[ Honestly, Sigma wished he was unaware of the existence of portals, too. On the one hand, one had saved his life, on the other… Well, not fun situations, really. ]

Great, I’ll be right there!

[ Sigma finishes at the counter, before turning with his cup in hand to find Mark. He was glad for a table in view of the door himself, although it was a bit awkward to realize he’d be sitting with his back to it… There’s a weird, noticeably little pause before he took a seat.

Well, this was only a frozen yoghurt place… what could go wrong? He’d trust his date to notice anything weird… he hoped. ]

So how is it? Living up to your expectations?

[ He asked, taking a seat and finally savouring the first bite of his frozen yoghurt. That was very good. The yoghurt and the mixed in oreo pieces definitely satisfying the earlier craving. ]

[Hey, Mark was plenty paranoid to notice weird things. And if the weird thing happened to be an Atypical like him, he'd know even before he saw it.

He happily takes his food and gets a bit, smiling to himself.]

Yes. It really is. This was perfect. I'm glad I thought of it.

[ Sigma would be both worried for Mark and relieved to know he would be aware if someone approached, but for now he settled for pretending he wasn’t just slightly unsettled with having his back to the door.

Luckily, the frozen yoghurt full of cookie pieces was an excellent distraction. ]

So am I, actually. I would have probably ended up at a convenience store later or something, kind of have a sweet tooth myself.

[ He admitted lightly, and smiled a little as he finished a spoonful of yoghurt. ]

And while that would have been fine, it would’ve lacked the good company. So, thanks for thinking of it, Mark.

My sweet tooth tends to get its way out with hot chocolate, but sometimes you just need something cool. Something that feels like you're cheating.

[He smiles at the thanks. As for himself, he's quite pleased to work through his own froyo. It tastes just right for the day they're having. The date.]

I'm going to say it right now, this is one of the best dates I've had in a while."

Can’t deny, hot chocolate is definitely nice in the evenings. Especially with something from the bakery, if there’s a chance.

[ When you can sneak away from work for a bit to get some time to eat and rest your weary bones? Sweets. That was his usual go to, anyway. The comment gets a small surprised look in his eyes, and a brighter smile in return. He was so glad to hear that. Especially considering he hadn’t been sure if he even got the right guy when this all began! ]

Me too, actually. I was a little worried about the whole… blind date thing, but I’m really glad we met Mark. [ Fidgeting with his yoghurt cup, he glanced up. ] Do you… Think it might be too soon to hope for another? Or well, the first of the non-blind variety, I guess.

[ he added with a little awkward smile. ]

I don't tend to hit up bakeries as much, so I wouldn't know. I just go with the chocolate myself.

[Though he does smile at the idea of another.]

Yes. A non-blind one. That would be nice. Just you and me and maybe a place we like rather than one people set up for us.

That’s probably better, to be honest. I just kind of developed the habit, I suppose.

[ The response gets pleased, slightly relieved smile. It was just nice to know he wasn’t the only one who thought this was going well, and that it wasn’t wrong to hope for something more. ]

Yeah? I really like the sound of that. [ He grinned a little. It would be nice to actually decide on somewhere they both liked. It wasn’t as though the people involved had picked badly… But choosing themselves meant getting to know one another a little better too, and Sigma was all for that now. ] We should exchange numbers, make it easier to arrange.

Oh, that I can do easily.

[Mark stuffs his spoon into his froyo and takes out his phone so he can hold it out for the guy to put information into it.]

[ Sigma finished another spoonful of his treat before setting it aside carefully and taking the phone carefully to input his contact information. There is, oddly, no last name… but that’s not important, right? Handing the phone back, he offered a light smile. ]

There, if you text me, I can add you to my contact list too.

[Hey, at least he didn't input it only as the greek letter. That would get lost in Mark's phone for days.]

Alright. Hold on...

[He takes his phoen back and sends off a quick text of 'this is the best froyo' to the new entry.]

[ The phone buzzes for a moment to signify that the message had come in, and he quickly opens it to add the number to his contact list. A small smile crosses his face at the message, texting back a small silly ‘It is, I’m glad someone with good taste could show me it. :)’ before tucking his phone away. ]

Perfect, now we can stay in touch and maybe see how our schedules work out for the next little while.

[ And see what kind of places might make a nice second date… The unknown and getting to know someone the ‘old fashioned’ way was a little scary, but in an exciting way. ]

I'm really looking forward to another meeting.

[Mostly, he's just smiling warmly.]

Tonight's been amazing.

[ And Sigma feels a little relieved to hear that, this whole… dating thing, blind or not, might not be as hard as he thought. The smile cast his way is nice, and he decides he likes Mark’s smile.

And he can’t help but smile back, less performative than it had been when the whole night started and more relaxed, sitting comfortably in the chair and enjoying both the yogurt and company. ]

I am too. I’ve liked getting to know you, Mark. I’m glad you ‘called dibs’ on the blind date.

[ He added with a soft laugh, finally finishing his yoghurt and setting the cup aside. ]

[Mark blushes a little at that.]

It was so childish. But clearly no one showed up to complain so it worked out for me. And I'm not going to regret it. Tonight's been wonderful.

[ And Sigma has to admit to himself, the blush is kind of cute on Mark. Not that he meant to make the guy feel childish or anything, he was genuinely glad they went through with the blind date despite their uncertainties on if they were meant to meet or if there had been a mixup.

Tilting his head with a little smile, he nodded. ]

I thought it was sweet, actually. And uh… Honestly, I’d be sad if you did regret it. This has been great. I really do look forward to getting to know you better, Mark.

Yeah, me too.

[He's smiling now, so warm and fond. Like this is the best thing that could happen.]

I look forward to it. Meeting again. Connecting with you.
