Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

[ And Sigma is paying attention to these opinions! He hadn’t expected it, but it was actually delightful. The man has always liked learning about what people around him enjoy, the amount of things he’d become knowledgeable about because of this tended to vary… But this was a new one!

Smiling a little, the man tilted his head as they walked down the sidewalk. ]

That makes a lot of sense when you put it that way. Maybe I’ll have to get your recommendations when we get there, hm? What about toppings? Do you go for anything like that with it or do you just get the froyo mixed?

I guess toppings can be nice. What I choose for it tends to depend on the flavors they have. With fruits I want a little bit of fruity stuff too. I don't tend to go with sprinkles though. I don't get it that at all.

That makes sense to me. You would want the flavours to go together well. [ He responded, tilting his head to Mark with a little smile. ] And while nice to look at, I suppose sprinkles don’t exactly have much… substance or add much flavour to something. I don’t think they’d be my go-to if I were to add anything, either.

Exactly. Like, it's just more sugar. Who cares about more sugar?

[And the he's chuckling. Because the guy gets it.]

But nuts? Nuts are great.

Aside from a child with a sweet tooth, maybe? Not me, I think.

[ He responded with a soft smile, definitely getting it. Plus, he’s a little into this now. The talk of flavours and toppings has him a little excited for the destination drawing nearer. ]

Right, they add both texture and flavour. I’m rather fond of them in cookies, because they balance well with sweets.

[ Thank goodness whoever the hell created him hadn’t included a nut allergy. That would have been rather disappointing to him, considering his preferences and the options they were talking about for froyo. ]

Cookies without nuts are just boring. Which is something people will judge me for I suppose.

[Oh, and they are here. And Mark smiles as he moves to hold the door open for them.]

Here we are.

Ah, maybe. [ There is a very specific detective he knows that seemed to be some kind of authority on sweets, so it’s possible. But he’s not here, and Sigma is. ] But I won’t. I think I have a similar preference. Cookies are more interesting with different things added to them, without nuts or fruits or chocolates and the like… they’re kind of just like a blank canvas, right?

[ At least Sigma thought of it that way, of the ones he’d tried over time. His favourites definitely weren’t the boring, plain kind. ]

Oh, thank you.

[ He offered quietly with a smile as he passed through the door ahead, one of his genuine ones and rather than the mask of charm. This night deserved that. It had been going better than expected. ]

Now, I guess we get to see what our options are and what we can devise, huh?

We really do get to see it.

[He smiles and moves to the counter and then makes a happy noise.]

They have the tangy normal one. I'm really going to eat too much.

The tangy vanilla you mentioned? That is tempting, I think.

[ Sigma was a little caught up in looking at the flavour options once they were inside, but a grin crossed his face at the positive reaction he hears from Mark. ]

I think that’s the point of these things. It’s a treat, right?

Yes, it is a treat, but man, self restraint is going to fail me.

[He smiles and heads to the counter.]

It looks like it's blended with the Chocolate Mint today, so I'm going to have to have them together. I'm excited.

We can fail at that together, then. It’s my treat, just so you know.

[ He responded with a small chuckle, following Mark towards the counter and eying the board. It had been his suggestion that they get dessert as things at the bar went well, and he liked the idea of treating here. ]

Chocolate mint? Hm… I actually think I wouldn’t mind trying that myself. Maybe with some of those oreo bits mixed in…

[ He mused, looking at the board and then at the options for what to put with it. ]

[Oh but to fail together sounds sweet in a good way.]

The oreo bits go really will with chocolate, so yeah, that should work out pretty good.

That what was my thought behind it, but we’ll find out if it’s true or not in a moment I guess.

[ He agreed with a hopeful smile, though he was at least confident that it can’t be bad! Stepping up as things moved forward, he tilted his head at Mark again. ]

Do you think you’ll get some toppings, or just the frozen yogurt mix?

I think I'm just going to live with the froyo for now. I mean, I already had those potato skins, you know?

[And he's mostly just not in a topping sort of mood]

[ Then that was what Mark would have! Sigma offered a smile in return. ]

Right, then I guess we have our orders figured out. Let’s see how they stand up to expectations, hm?

Right.

[He smiles and moves to order for them.]

I'm so excited about this. I only let myself have the froyo for special times.

[ Special times, huh? Does that mean this counts as special? Sigma kind of likes the sound of that, if only because the evening did feel special for all the unknown aspects going into it. ]

Yeah? [ And by his tone, he sounds very happy about it. ] Then I’m glad we decided to get dessert, it’s good to have a treat and nicer to share one with someone who’ll enjoy it too.

Exactly.

[He talks to the server through his desires, and gets two spoons for his cup. Of course he's going to share with the other man.]

Alright, get what you want too.

Right!

[ He smiled, taking his turn next and gives his order to the server, quietly asking that Mark’s order to be included with his own to pay. It was still his treat, and he’d be firm on that. Once he has his cup and a couple spoons as well (in case David wanted to try some of his too), the man turned with a hum. ]

This is going to be so good! Do you want to find a place to sit in here or do you want to eat outside?

[Of course Mark wasn't going to argue about who was treating who. That wouldn't be respectful to his date. The guy had said he wanted to, and that was all it took.]

I would rather sit in here, thanks.

[He likes to have the excuse of walls nearby and the chance to see other people around him.]

[ Sigma certainly could relate to the need for a little more security that one could find in eating indoors, or at least the hope that it would be. He did know someone who could use a kind of portal, unfortunately. ]

Inside it is, then. You want to find a seat and I’ll join you after I pay?

[Portals were definitely not something Mark was prepared for the existence of, thank you.]

That sounds perfect.

[Still no argument over payment, just a guy going to sit down at a table where he can see the door.]

[ Honestly, Sigma wished he was unaware of the existence of portals, too. On the one hand, one had saved his life, on the other… Well, not fun situations, really. ]

Great, I’ll be right there!

[ Sigma finishes at the counter, before turning with his cup in hand to find Mark. He was glad for a table in view of the door himself, although it was a bit awkward to realize he’d be sitting with his back to it… There’s a weird, noticeably little pause before he took a seat.

Well, this was only a frozen yoghurt place… what could go wrong? He’d trust his date to notice anything weird… he hoped. ]

So how is it? Living up to your expectations?

[ He asked, taking a seat and finally savouring the first bite of his frozen yoghurt. That was very good. The yoghurt and the mixed in oreo pieces definitely satisfying the earlier craving. ]

[Hey, Mark was plenty paranoid to notice weird things. And if the weird thing happened to be an Atypical like him, he'd know even before he saw it.

He happily takes his food and gets a bit, smiling to himself.]

Yes. It really is. This was perfect. I'm glad I thought of it.

[ Sigma would be both worried for Mark and relieved to know he would be aware if someone approached, but for now he settled for pretending he wasn’t just slightly unsettled with having his back to the door.

Luckily, the frozen yoghurt full of cookie pieces was an excellent distraction. ]

So am I, actually. I would have probably ended up at a convenience store later or something, kind of have a sweet tooth myself.

[ He admitted lightly, and smiled a little as he finished a spoonful of yoghurt. ]

And while that would have been fine, it would’ve lacked the good company. So, thanks for thinking of it, Mark.
