Blind Date Meme

Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play
1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)
2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!
3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.
4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

"Directors shape the way the show comes together. They work together to make the full vision. It sounds exciting.

[And it keeps Robin from the immediate lime light while she still gets to enjoy it.]

We really will. Come on. I...

[Robin offers her arm to Gray to guide her in.]

Oh…!

[ People did that on dates, right? She is pretty, at least, that it was normal. Like in some of the novels she’d read over the years. So, with a little blush on her cheeks, she took the offered arm and let Robin draw her along. ]

Thank you, I’ll let you lead the way.

[Don't worry, Robin's blushing too. They can be blushing roses together. She smiles, produces their tickets to figure out which box they need to go to, and leads Gray the best she can.]

I've never had such good seats before. This is going to be interesting.

[ They probably made a cute, pretty picture then. The girl helped look over the tickets and offered quiet thoughts as they searched for their seats to help if she thought she saw something that might lead in the right direction. But Robin gets them there just fine, and Gray is left to look around in a little bit of awe. ]

You can see so much from up here! [ she offered in a small, but excited tone. ] and it’s so much quieter than it was downstairs.

[ A plus, honestly. There was always something of an awkwardness to being crowded in at seats on all sides. ]

[The view really was great. Steve was really winning massive wingman points in this moment.]

Oh yeah, you really can. It's so nice. I'm actually looking even more forward to this. Should probably drag my friend to one of these showings some time, seeing as his parents don't ever use the tickets.

[ Still looking out over the balcony, she smiled to herself at the view. There were so many people too, and it was so much more relaxed than the situations she usually ended up in. Glancing over her shoulder curiously, she moved to take a seat. ]

That sounds like a good idea? He might have fun, and it seems like a shame to not use them if they have them. Especially with such good seats.

[Robin takes the other available seat, enjoying the view herself.]

You know, being up here I can pretend for a few minutes that I'm actually sort of rich. And that's nice for a change.

And Steve sorta prefers movies? But I guess it's a shame his parents don't use him so it becomes a shame he doesn't use them. Then there's us. Two cool girls reaping the benefits.

It does, kind of! Or at least how I would imagine it, I think.

[ Rich without the awkwardness of dealing with other rich people. Reines had invited her to a fancy party once, and it felt like she’d stuck her foot in her mouth a few times. Of course, then things spiralled after that, but the point stood. ]

I guess if you prefer movies, it might be different. [ She mused, people did have all kinds of interests she had been noticing since arriving in the city. Still, she was glad to have the chance to see a real play. O-oh two cool girls? Was she cool? Now she’s noticeably blushing, she’s never been called cool before! ] Y-yes! We can at least enjoy them if no one else will.

[Robin always stuck her foot in her mouth at those parties. Which, she suspected, was half of why Steve took her. The other half was fancy food. But scandalizing the riches by saying 'she's my capital p platonic lifemate' really threw wrenches in conversations he didn't want to have.]

And clearly no rich snobs are going to appreciate these seats like us. Because I've never had this chance before and I bet we can count the hairs on actors' wigs from here! Not that we should. Because that would be distracting.

[ That gets a little smile, because she expected that was at least a little true. People who could enjoy seats like this all the time probably got used to it, right? It wouldn’t be as interesting or special if it were an everyday thing. Reines and Luvia both probably thought this was just normal for a play, if they went to them. ]

That’s probably true with some of them, and it makes it more exciting since this is my first time seeing a play! [ She tilted her head at the stage below, and her eyes swept the crowd again out of habit. ] Right, but it still means we can enjoy all the fancy details from here without having to peek around someone’s head if someone tall were sitting in front of us.

[ She could imagine that happening, and it would be disappointing. ]

Exactly!

[Robin smiles and looks around, watching people fill out the seats below. They had of course gotten in a touch sooner because of how good their seats here.]

Plus we can exit earlier, or if we need the bathroom we can slip out without, like, bothering other people as much.

That would be really awkward to move around with the seating down below. They are a bit close together.

[ She peered over the edge again, really this did seem like the best way to experience a play. Especially a first play! ]

It’s pretty too. I wonder what the stage will be like when the curtains open.

Yeah. It's hard to get past the seats of the other people.

[That Robin can speculate on, but only speculate. Each director brought their own vision.]

I promise it will be colorful.

ghostlyflame: (21)
Will it?

[ She smiled brightly. That was exciting! Something colourful would be rather beautiful combined with the setting, wouldn’t it? ]

I can’t wait to see, then. Not that I would mind if it was, um… less colourful, but it sounds really lovely.

It should be. And-

[She goes quiet because there's a brief dimming, raising, and dimming of hte lights.]

Oh! It's going to start soon. That's the sign that people shoudl get in their seats.

[ Gray looked up as the lights started to dim, a little startled but realizing that was normal as Robin continued. ]

Oh, I wondered why they were doing that. I worried for a moment something was wrong.

[ she admitted sheepishly, feeling kind of silly. ]

Nope. If this was a musical then they'd start doing some music too. But are you excited and ready? Because I am.

[Does she sound excited? She should.]

[ Gray gave a little nod from under her hood. It was actually more exciting to have someone else that sounded excited, too. Infectious in a way. ]

Mmhm! Very. I can’t wait to see what it’s like when it starts.

Well, how about we wait to see. It's about time to...

[She goes quiet as the lights fully dim. Time to watch. And Robin's very attentive to it, and happy to whisper answers to questions that Gray might offer. Mostly though she's watching as the play plays out. And when Intermission comes she leans back in her seat, sighing contentedly.]

Man, this is great so far.

[ Gray falls silent when Robin does, eyes darting to the stage below as the curtains are drawn back and the play begins.

The girl was grateful that Robin was there to answer her quiet questions, offered with fleeting glances before returning to watch the stage with the awe of someone who’d never seen something quite like this before. It was new, and exciting, and wonderful. So much so that her glances at the seats below had ceased, and she forgot to watch for her mentor and signs of trouble, not that there was any for once.

The intermission had her turning slightly in her seat, the closest thing to a beaming smile on her face.
]

It’s wonderful, more beautiful that I imagined. It’s been an interesting story, too.

[ Tilting her head a little, she added. ]

And thank you for putting up with all my questions. You know a lot about this stuff. I don’t think it would have been as easy to follow without your answers.

Hey, there's no reason I couldn't put up with the questions. They were interesting and I like talking about things I understand. And this? This was something I understood. I'd hope that if something came up that you understood and I didn't, you'd do the same for me.

[She does rise from her seat to stretch.]

So, we could go out and get some drinks and come back, or hit the bathroom, or we could stay here and talk, if you want.

[ It was true that she would have, if they happened to be doing something that Gray knew more about… But it still meant a lot to her to have had the chance to ask. ]

Hm… I wouldn’t mind a chance to get up and walk?

[ She could stand to stretch her legs a bit, she thinks. And it is so easy to go and come back, given they had the booth to themselves. ]

Alright then. Let's do that.

[Because Robin doesn't want to, you know, completely abandon her date right now.]

Shall we?
Date/Time: 2023-09-29 00:21 (UTC)Posted by: [personal profile] ghostlyflame
ghostlyflame: (2)
Yes, let’s!

[ Gray pushed herself to her feet from her chair and nodded with a little smile, more relaxed than she had been when they got here. ]

Will they do that thing with the lights again when we should get back to our seats?

[ she asked curiously, sticking close to Robin as she looked around as they left the booth behind again. ]

Yeah, and the musicians will do the music thing again. But the warning period will maybe be shorter?

[She guides them out of the balcony.]

Do you need the bathroom?
