Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

There is little nearly so irritating as having meddling parents, is there not? Here he is, successful, famous as an intellectual and a warrior, known the world over for his love and support of the arts, and yet all it takes is one fretting call from his mother (and then four days of haranguing from his best friend because why would he ever cave to his mother's desires) before he's caving in to deal with some foolish request from home.

At least, he had decided, he could knock two birds out with one stone. Dates are arranged, money sent to outfit a dress if the young woman doesn't have anything suitable for a high society charity function, and an invitation sent as well as to where and when to meet. Outside. Where Genesis was currently waiting in his three piece designer suit.

At least there was one advantage to his situation he supposed. WHoever the young woman was, she would serve as an excellent barrier against other female guests who might be eager to end up in his good graces. Maybe she would even be interesting conversation. Though that he of course doubted.

Funny, Cheryl was also doubting the person she had been set up with would offer interesting conversation. But there was always hope.

Cheryl can attest to the meddling parents part. Hers in particular. She most definitely did not ask to meet some guy they know. Just because his parents are also well to do doesn't matter to her, though it sure does seem to matter a lot to them. They are intent on this match, going on about his hair and the possible children they could bear.

She almost wants to sabotage the evening because they're endorsing this man. She does send back the money with a note of, "Don't be insulting. I have my own," but that is not her trying to purposefully sabotage, truly. Despite the temptation, she decides to attend. If nothing else, it was something to do for an evening.

When she shows, she dresses proper in her signature red color, shoulders bare, with shiny layers and matching gloves.

Luckily, her mother had shown her pictures, so she knows who to look for.

"Genesis, yes?" Cheryl asks as she approaches, then offers out one of her hands, expectantly.

Well, at least she knows how to dress. Genesis was more prone to a deeper red when he was allowed to choose his own garments, but that was something anyway. He seems happy with what she is in though. He takes her hand and bows over it, as a gentleman should.

"Indeed, my lady. And you would be Cheryl. I apologize before this starts for the tedium to which you shall be exposed."

"Correct." She smiles and looks like she's due his bow, but at least curtsies in return. He has manners. And he's easy on the eyes, at least.

"I've had my fair share of soirees," Cheryl assures him.

"I was wondering. Our parents likely have business with each other to lead to this blind match." A beat. "I'm not sure what it is, though. Do you?" Her curiosity is due to hoping it's nothing shady.

"I do not involve myself in their machinations," Genesis admits with a grumble. He had reasons to have no respect for his parents. They had been making money off of his research since he was a child, and they had not truly been parents since then. That they would interfere even to this degree was frustrating.

"Given my own are involved in food products, I cannot fathom it would be hard to figure what their situation was with another."

"Probably wise." There were so many things Cheryl wished she didn't know about her parents.

Food products - Cheryl almost sighs with relief, but that honestly could just be a cover for something more sinister. Still, she manages a tense smile and says, "Hopefully it is just about our wonderful maple syrup, then." It is the simplest explanation.

Since it's a thing in her family - particularly for the men with Cheryl being overlooked because she was born female - she sees the opening to ask, "Are you slated to take over your parents food empire in the future?"

Oh there are more sinister things, they were just not things that Genesis was aware of. That the knowing of will blow Genesis's mind up.

"It's entirely possible that the syrup will go well with the Banora White Apples, but who can be certain."

Slated to take over the empire? Genesis laughs. Oh what an idea.

"Perhaps, but I've no intention for it. I'm military, and I shall not be turning away from my work."

"It might. Or maybe apple infused syrup has a future." She is pretty sure there is more going on here, though.

She listens to Genesis' words, her mind ever turning.

"That might be my parents designs. Plant their eyes on you for future heir. If you remain in the military, then, it would be name only. But they will not entrust their company in my very capable hands."

"I am content with the juice. And they will not likely get many other inventive uses, seeing as it was me that created the process to make said juice."

He had been a child prodigy in several fields, none of which he still touched at this point.

Though he is intrigued at her conclusion. But he offers his arm to her, happy to guide her in at this point.

"Have you experience and education in business management?"

"Good. Because Blossom Syrup is mine." Cheryl doesn't say that with empty confidence, either.

She takes Genesis' hand.

"Once I graduate high school I can pursue that in earnest, but I have more than enough experience handling my own parents, as well as their co-conspirators. As well as being the person that got contracts with other businesses. I'm the reason they have a lucrative partnership with Luna Rum."

It had been Veronica's idea, sure, but Cheryl was going to take the credit for contract over her parents - they had nothing to do with it.

Indeed? Genesis looks at her, clearly full of respect. Another sharp mind, who created that which elevated those around her. How intriguing. And she's young enough at that. Though he has to pause at her implied age.

"How old are you? Dear lord, I may need to deal with your parents in another fashion."

she gives Genesis a genuine smile, in return, recognizing the respect. She's grown to see him differently in this short time, too. He's not long just some date her parents saddled with her.

"I'm eighteen," she assures him. "I graduate this year, and have been accepted to the college of my choice, High Smith College. Just furthering my plans, as I've been working toward this since I was fifteen. Even younger."

She is not going to wait until she's free of high school to get started on that, after all.

Ah. Younger than him by a few years. But not so many that it would be odd. If she were more like fifteen or sixteen he pointedly would have taken her home. As it was, he can handle an evening of bitching with her about the problems presented by parents.

"I am glad to hear you have achieved your desired university. I find academia annoying myself at times. Had I not taken the route I did I believe my parents would have forced me into business school when I would have rathered to study literature or chemistry."

Two very different areas, but neither of which he had chosen. He was forging his own path.

She's an adult, regardless, and been through enough she feels secure in her ability to carry conversation with someone a bit older. Cheryl thinks she's more mature than her classmates, anyway.

"I chose business," she assures him. "My parents want to control the future of Blossom Maple Farms, and refuse to see me as a suitable heir. I'll just have to take that future for myself."

She listens to Genesis, then, curious, has to ask, "Do you...plan to get away from them? Your parents? Can you?" She tried, and that failed, spectacularly.

"If it is publicly traded then your best bet may in fact just be setting up a holding company to allow you to buy shares until you have a suitable amount to stage a take over," Genesis offers with a shrug. She could even start with a contract with another person if she needs a front person to hide her interest until it's too late.

"I have no intention of involving myself with them when it does not cause a stir. Which I manage quite well most days."

"That's clever," Cheryl remarks, a smirk growing on her face. "And devious. Yes. I don't think Mumsy and Dad would see that coming."

"That's wise. If I can get myself away from mine, that's my next plan of attack."

"One is taught to be ruthless in my field of expertise," Genesis says with a smiles and a tilt of his head.

Whether that is corporate life, war, or academia, he doesn't specify.

Cheryl's mind automatically goes to corporate life. After all, her parents are just as ruthless. Blossoms are expected to be ruthless. Forged in fire.

"I think this attempt a match has backfired. And I would prefer to keep you in good spirits as a friend," Cheryl assures him. "My parents wouldn't know what to expect." She could learn how to better thwart them with his help.

"That sounds agreeable," he says with a laugh. "My family cannot fathom what my own desires might be of course."

And they did not always run in line with women. Which was no fault of hers.

"I am glad for an alliance to annoy unsuitable parents though."

"Mayhaps this match worked out, but not for them. Not as they planned," Cheryl revisits her own words with a grin.
