Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

[There are those who desire 'rugged and handsome'. There were some that desired something more svelte, lean, refined. Rhy Maresh knew the value in both and preferred the latter.]

I do believe my mind is firmly set and not looking to be swayed from the splendor laid before it. Though since you are looking forward to such reassurances, I shall have to apply them liberally. But first, might I see that a meal is brought for us?

[Joshua still couldn't understand this man, but he would learn. That was definitely one thing he was good with and even if this was all new to him he would still walk this path and so he nodded to his over eager companion with a small laugh in his tone.]

I would be honoured to share a meal with you.

[Rhy smiles and waves over a server, asking them to bring their finest wine and a meal to match. It wasn't always a menu option in places like this and he did not mind that. It felt more genuine. Then he turns back to Joshua.]

So, might I ask you a question?

[Joshua wondered what caused that smile. Just because he had agreed to dinner, did it warrant such a thing? He had no idea. But he let Rhy order the wine and food without a word and turned to his host err..date and nodded.]

Yes you may.

What has led to you choosing to accept this? An arrangement like this is not the most common, and not the most exciting for many.

[Joshua's face slightly reddened at hearing what Rhy was asking.]

My brother said that getting out and meeting new people would be beneficial. So I agreed, but I didn't know that he meant a date.

[He then turned his blue eyes to Rhy's face with the slightest hint of mirth on his face and challenge in his tone.]

When did I say that I wasn't excited? Or are you speaking for yourself?

[Ah, meddlesome brothers. Rhy laughs.]

Older then. Yes, I understand that feeling entirely. My older brother is often the same. Well, in that he is involved in my business. But he is often saying I need to meet less people. As for me, I am exceedingly exciting and excited. I bask in the warmth of your presence.

[Joshua nodded in complete understanding. Well that would give them something to bond over in a sense, but he let the thought pass through his mind, until he heard the less people part. That was intriguing. Although perhaps it was because Rhy was so flirtatious? And hearing the last bit had him laugh a little.]

I agree with your statement wholeheartedly regarding your self assessment. I thank you for the compliment, but I admit that I am curious as to why would your brother want you to meet less people.

[Ah, but there is a complication isn't it? Rhy sighs.]

Our... lives growing up was complicated. I was seen poorly by others given certain peculiarities of my birth. It made me a bit of a people pleaser, and desperate to make friendly with others. Thus his disapproval.

[Joshua listened and as he did so, he thought of the Branded. And while he didn't think that Rhy would know of them or was like them, it was the mental comparison that he made. Interesting to hear this, and it made him wonder a few things. So he smiled.]

Is that perhaps where your outgoing nature sprang from?

Perhaps.

[He grins over that before leaning in to whisper.]

I'm also royalty, if you must know. It made it so people wanted to know me.

[Joshua saw the grin and didn't move when Rhy leaned in to reveal his secret. He then blinked a few times and nodded, pulling back.]

I see. Then no wonder people wanted to get close to you.

[That made him think a moment and he kept his voice down.]

If that is the case, then how should I address you?

By my name of course.

[Why would he offer another name? It makes sense to give his name to someone he wishes to see romantically.]

[He nodded.]

If that isn't too informal for you and is your preference, then that is what I'll do.

[Because Joshua was a respectful person.]

I hardly care about formality or not at this moment. It would be more inappropriate for us not to take this time to get to know each other properly, would it not?

[Joshua nodded with a smile, tucking away more than a few questions.]

Agreed. Then I would ask what you do when you're not sitting on a date with someone? Would that look something like charming regular people?

[Rhy laughs and shakes his head.]

Charm is a valuable tool for a king. So yes, I spend some time at it. And rebuilding after... well, everything that has gone wrong back home.

[Mentally Joshua gave himself a small bit of credit for being able to make the handsome king laugh. It also gave him a brief respite from feeling self conscious. But then the other's tone changed and he felt sympathy for the other man.]

I'm sorry to hear things had gone wrong, but what are the places that you enjoy going to or things you enjoyed doing?

I used to enjoy plays. I've little time for them these days, but there used to not be a single premier I did not attend. Even if the play was far from interesting.

[That had him thinking.]

I have not had the pleasure of seeing one myself in some time. Perhaps that should be put on an agenda for next time?

"If you have not, then yes, you most definitely should see to making time for it. You will be quite entertainined by the acts."

He nodded, and the king had missed what he'd said. But perhaps that was on purpose.

"I will do so, and I thank you for the recommendation."

It was more that Rhy was not yet certain when he might be able to tear himself away for a play. It wasn't like there were many going on at home right now.

"I would happily recommend many things to you."

[phoenixawakened]

Joshua nodded. "Then we'll start with the present mayhap. Looking over the menu I find that I'm unfamiliar with some of the dishes listed. What would you recommend to try?"

"It depends on what you like in a meal. Light and simple? Heavy and hearty? Complex and adventurous?"

Because Rhy could go on at length about all such schoices.
