Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

Hello!

[Don't mind the strange, blue skinned woman, Tifa. Who is stupidly heavily muscled and smiling broadly at her. And has a bouquet of flowers. Because this is what she's been given to understand was culturally appropriate when meeting someone for a date here.

Not that she's ever been on a date before. But hey, she's adaptable.]

Tifa's eyes go wide. She's not usually prone to staring, but this woman is amazing. Tifa isn't sure she's seen someone so gorgeous and so strong. And, o-oh she's handing her flowers.

Tifa stands up a little too quickly, her own strength scooting the table with a loud scraping noise as it drags across the floor. "Ah-hi," she stammers before she catches herself. She takes a deep breath, mentally centering herself as she puts on her customer service smile, even if her face is fighting to turn red. "Lauri-Ell, right? I'm Tifa -- these are beautiful."

No one has ever gotten her flowers. Well, they've brought them to the bar, or weirdly thrust them at her on her way home, but no one has ever brought them properly for a date.

She didn't even think to bring a gift, and now she's not sure what to do with her hands. Shaking them seems weird for a date. But her customer service face is flawless, and she gestures back to the table. "Have a seat. Can I get your drink of choice?"

"It is my honor to meet you," Lauri-Ell says, offering the woman a smile. "I was to bring you chocolates as well, but I sampled one to see if these candies are worthy of serving as a gift. And they were delicious."

She blushes a little, and her cheeks go a darker blue because of it. She hadn't had chocolate before that moment. It had been a mistake to sample.

Then she sits and settles in.

"I enjoy milk."

Tifa's friends had mentioned Lauri-Ell wasn't local. This wasn't what she'd expected, but it does give her an idea.

"Great. I've got you."

She comes back a few minutes later with two steaming mugs of hot chocolate. She even got whipped cream and caramel on the top.

Lauri-Ell looks at the cup that is set before her and considers it.

"I have not seen milk like this before."

But she's smiling because this is a new experience and those are always a delight.

"It looks pretty."

"It's warm and has chocolate in it," she says. "The things on top are whipped cream and caramel. And yeah, I love how they do the little designs with the milk," Tifa agrees. "I'm learning but I'm not very good yet."

She lifts her mug, smiling at Lauri-Ell. "Cheers to experiences."

"Cheers," she agrees, lifting the mug and carefully sipping. Her eyes go wide and then she takes another sip.

Clearly she has no idea that she now has a whipped cream mustache.

"This is wonderful!"

Oh, gosh, she's...precious. Tifa knows what it feels like to be stared at, and she blushes when she catchers herself looking too long, hastily looking at her hot chocolate instead.

"I'm definitely a fan. Are you pretty new to town then?"

"Quite new. I have had cause to visit due to the presence of my sister," Lauri-Ell says with a smile. "She has encouraged me to come to know more Humans and human cultures as well. And this chocolate, I would like to take some home."

IT is a delight.

"These tastes are so creamy and wonderful."

"Well, that settles one thing. I'll get you some mix to send back with you." She's glad she didn't pick something ahead of time; it's nice to get someone something they like.

"Are you and your sister close then?"

Oh, was that true? Lauri-Ell is a bit excited about that. She would very much enjoy having this once again.

"We met recently, and have been attempting our best to ensure we come to know each other as we should."

"Oh, wow." Tifa was 99.5% sure she did not have a secret sibling out there, but if she did, she'd do anything in her power to get to know them.

"That sounds so wonderful to have found out! I'm glad you're getting that chance."

"We are both happy too," Lauri-Ell says with a grin. This was the most wonderful thing to think about. All the things she is learning has been a delight.

"And learning this world has been wonderful. There are things here, people here, who make me smile."

"Would it be rude to ask what your home is like? I haven't traveled much."

And she likes seeing the other woman smile and hearing her talk.

Of course it would not. She smiles and takes another draw on the cocoa.

"Kree cities remind me of this place a little. But bigger. They can cover whole worlds. But our power comes from the ground in the form of heat, and from our star, and of course from carefully controlled nuclear reactions. Our buildings tower and are made of glass windows and they are beautiful too. But there are less growing things if we do not specifically allow for them."

"Wow, a whole world of city?"

She's not sure...she likes that. But she isn't going to be rude. Which means she isn't going to ask how the power works, because that sounds... a bit like Mako, but not quite.

"Was your planet not growing things first?" Maybe they came there with technology? People talked about that for the moon.

"Yes," Lauri-Ell says. "We had many garden planets, for food and other purposes. But I do not like that."

No, cities that can have green spaces are much better.

"We have not had as much on growing things on Hala in many millennia. Space became a premium after tens of thousands of years of space travel."
