"Barely talked at all. Been sending her checks now and then, you know, help out. The... government settlement got me started, but I was worried about her and Max. Figured she needed a bit of something more Neil wouldn't know about."
And that was of course how he'd gotten his invitation to this. Susan had forwarded it along to him.
