Blind Date Meme

Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play
1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)
2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!
3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.
4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

[At least one of them understood what this was going in. Reeve really is going to have to yell at someone for this later. For now, though, he made his way into the cafe to look for the man that had been vaguely described to him. And only one person even remotely fits the comparison of 'fashionable and intriguing, with the facial hair. Actually, he could have guessed on that alone.

He approaches and offers a smile and a tilt of his head.]

Good afternoon. Would you be Dorian?

[Woman what now? Like, she agrees on the death by chocolate but huh? She could get behind that. But why would 'he' have kept her? What the actual factual fuck?]

Um, no offense, Choclato sir, but who the hell are you? Why are you invested in my dinner? And if I hear any lines about American states I might actually try for chocolate death.

[First things first. Board Game Cafes, where have you BEEN all of his life? Like, how is this not to coolest thing ever? Just getting to sit back and meet strangers and play Catan? Coolest ever. And no one really judges him when he whips out the sitar to play. Okay, so they do, but LESS!

And now here he was, supposed to meet someone? Axel had just smiled and said the guy was really looking forward to meeting. Wasn't that great? No way this could possibly go wrong, right? And there he is. 'Guy showing off a lot of chest' Axel had said. Demyx smiles and smooths back his hair a bit before approaching.]

Hey! Hopefully I didn't keep you waiting!

Didn't RNG who I'd bring out for you. Bringing you this never been tagged baby Nida account. So I figured I'd rng location instead. Hilarious and maybe charming half-blind double date at a fast food restaurant? Maybe Waver's classmate wanted emotional support for a first date and was like 'listen come along, they're bringing a friend, you can have dinner with the friend at the next table'?

[This was not what she had expected. Had been psyching herself up all week for this blind date, because this was supposed to be a nice girl that Steve had heard about from a friend of a friend. So, you know, date with a girl was a plus.

Coming in to lobby of the playhouse she looks around and finds the person wearing the flower she was told to look for and... The girl's eyes are just constantly following someone else. Which is bad. Maybe it's just a friend that is there to watch out for her? Robin swallows her nerves and walks up to the other young woman.]

Uh. Hi. I'm. Um. Hi.

[ Waver propped his hand up on his chin. He could be studying right now, he should be studying right now. He had a paper to write, and this one was going to impress the professor. He knew it.

But, instead, here he was sitting at a table in the nearest fast-food place because Melvin had kidnapped him from the dorms before he could make his escape to the library. ‘You’re my best friend! Best friends support each other in their moments of need, Waver!! That moment of need, apparently, was some kind of date with the girl of the week he’d gotten smitten with. Since they’d decided to go to a fast-food place, the guy decided Waver was the best wing-man because he was but a commoner by comparison to Melvin. He’d know what was good!

Annnnd maybe this girl had a friend that Melvin agreed should meet Waver. The teen needed to learn to live a little, be an actual teen! ]

Uh... You’re here with Melvin’s date, right?

[ He finally asked with a small glance as someone stopped next to the table he’d snagged nearby, lifting his head from his hand with a sidelong glance to check and see if Melvin was alone still or not, which he wasn’t. Thank god, if Melvin was stood up they’d never hear the end of it. ]

[There was safety in places where you can keep some sort of control over the whole situation. Well, there isn't a lot of 'control' in a Sports Bar, but his sister knew that he liked public places just in case, and there was definitely nothing NOT public about a Sports Bar.

So Mark waited at the counter, trying to tune out the basketball game, nursing a rum and cola, waiting for his... Did they still call them blind dates? He doesn't know. All he knows is that he was supposed to be waiting for someone, his pink shirt was supposed to be the sign, and the person was supposed to recognize him from that. But how was he supposed to know them?

God this hadn't even started and he was already messing up.]

[Date day! Zack was so going to owe Genesis for the generosity of this whole thing. Just making sure Zack didn't have to be alone for the street fair. The young Soldier was absolutely bouncing as he approached the closed off area for the street fair. All he had to do was find his companion for the day.

This was going to be the best day off ever!]

[ The person who she was watching would probably have an aneurysm if he heard that someone thought Gray might be interested in him like that.

She looked up in surprise to be addressed, even though she knew at this point someone was supposed to be approaching. Oh... Oh dear, she was here already! Tugging at the edge of her hood (sorry Robin, it stays up for a reason); she stood up both in panic and because she wanted to be polite! ]

U-uh, hello! It’s nice to meet you. You’re Robin, right?

[ Oh.. Does that imply it wouldn’t be nice to meet this person if she wasn’t Robin? ]

If you're not, it’s still nice to meet you! I’m just waiting for someone named Robin.

[ And making sure her disaster mentor doesn’t get himself in trouble, but that’s not important right now. ]

[Yeah, Nida wasn't exactly comfortable about this either. Like, Selphie had basically told him out of nowhere that he needed to get out of his evening study sessions and live a little. And that she had a date. Which of course was against Garden policy because wow they weren't supposed to be randomly off campus at night.

But worse than that, she'd somehow talked him into being here this evening? How had it happened? He doesn't entirely remember. Maybe a misused sleep spell? All he knows is that he's finished dropping off Selphie's portion of their order that he picked up from the counter, and going to the table she waves him to. And yep, there's the guy.]

Yeah. Selphie. She... She might have kidnapped me?

[He sits down across from the guy.]

Hope you friend, Melvin was it, isn't scared of a lot. She's a handful.

Yeah.

[Fuck, she fucked up the name part. She's blushing a little. This is a first for her. First date, first blind date, first time she's wanted to punch Steve for lining up a blind date]

Uh, yeah. I'm definitely Robin. You're, well, actually, I was never given your name. Sorry. My friend gave me all the time in the world to be anxious about this and forgot your name apparently. Oh god.

[ Sigma really doesn’t know how he ends up in these situations. He’s not... Well, he’s not really sure this is all a good idea. The man isn’t always the best judge of character and he knows it, and yet he still accepted the idea. Decided to try to see what kind of hand he was dealt. A sports bar wasn’t really his scene, but at least it was public enough that if things turned out poorly, he had a shot at getting out with minimal stress... right?

He’s a little late, because he spent the last 10 minutes giving himself a pep talk on the street corner. This was fine. Everyone went on blind dates now and again, right? The problem was, Sigma didn’t like leaving things to chance. He liked to be prepared and he... well, wanted to be liked. He made it his mission to learn and study and memorize what he could about everyone at work... You couldn’t do that on a blind date.

All he had to go on was ‘pink shirt,’ no name, no appearance. Just that. At least Mark can’t miss Sigma’s entrance if he’s watching the door. Even if he doesn’t know, this is the guy he’s waiting for. The man slips through the door, eyes darting from one way and the other carefully. Long hair split down the middle, a shocking white and lavender. Yes... It’s natural. He’s layered up a fair bit, but most noticeable is a long white coat with what looks like stars glinting stars flashing in the lining, and a pair of impressive high heels that click lightly as he makes his way around strangers and stops right in front of Mark. ]

Excuse me... I think I’m supposed to meet you? Or at least someone wearing a pink shirt. If I’m wrong, I’m sorry about that.

[That... was not what Mark expected his date to look like. The hair, the coat, the heels. But he is still smiling, albeit shyly, as the guy stops in front of him. Wow, this venue looked all wrong for the guy. At least Mark almost looked like someone who liked some good sportsball.]

That would be me. At least, there's always a chance there's more than one blind date happening. But I was specifically told to wear a pink shirt.

[He offers his hand out.]

I'm Mark.

[ Waver feels a little bit of sympathy to hear that, awkward as this all is... At least he’s not the only one who’d been dragged into this against their will, right? ]

Ah... So she and Melvin do have something in common when it comes to getting their way.

[ He sighed, shaking his head. Actually, as the guy continued to describe Selphie? Waver gets a bad feeling these two shouldn’t have met to begin with. ]

No, he doesn’t scare easily. He’s too stupid to be scared easily. [ He huffed a little, shaking his head. ] As long as she doesn’t get freaked out if his health turns, then they’ll be fine.

[ And if not, everyone got to go home to studying sooner! ]

Oh god. That sounds like a disaster. We've unleashed something horrible upon the world. Or I'd say that if we had any control over this.

[He sits down and unloads his tray with his burger and fries and shake. If he's going to be in detention for weeks, then he was going to eat well.]

Did you want something for yourself? I can get it. I've got a bit of change left from my stipend. And she... I don't know what she'll do then actually. Never seen Selphie in what she'd deem a crisis.

Oh! Thank goodness, I wasn’t sure, and I didn’t want to get it wrong!

[ Gray was rather observant, and it was hard to not see the little blush on Robin’s face. She was really pretty, and she seemed so nice! Which... Admittedly made Gray a little more nervous, herself. She wasn’t particularly special, in her own opinion, not beautiful like Reines and Luvia, or smart like Flat and Svin. All four of them would know what to do in this situation compared to her. They would be way better at this whole blind date thing!

Oh, she was staring a little. Ducking her head, she shook it quickly at the apology. Now it was her turn to blush...! ]

It’s okay, please don’t worry! I don’t mind at all. Remembering names is hard, and we never met before.

[ She offered in return with an anxious little shake of her head and gesture with one hand. She is... pointedly ignoring a snickering coming from under her cloak. This is not funny, this is serious! She doesn’t know what to do!! ]

[ Honestly, the person who arranged this could have told him more! But nooo, it was probably more fun (for them) this way. ]

But you are the only person with a pink shirt, so I’m going to hope I’m not wrong, at least for now. It’s nice to meet you, Mark. I’m Sigma.

[ The man took the hand offered with a polite smile and feigning confidence like a champ, despite his inner turmoil over this potential mess. He was being careful of his own thoughts and intentions to avoid accidentally setting off his ability. Even if it would probably give him some peace of mind to know something more about this guy... ]

Ever since coming out as bi, Nick's mates, while well intended - Harry in particular - seemed to want to set Nick up with other boys as a matter of teasing. It made him uncomfortable, but he wasn't willing to tell them to stop, not wanting that argument. he wasn't even sure if he was comfortable dating other boys in public spaces, but no one had to know, right.

They could go to an arcade, it was agreed upon, and didn't have to stay there. And they could just talk, grab something to eat, or play games, too. And if it didn't work out, they could just act like it was a matter of meeting up with a friend to have fun.

He is still nervous as he waits by a ski-ball machine, looking for the Billy Harry had described to him. He uncrosses and crosses his legs and arms, shifting his weight as Nick's eyes slip to the ground, then lift again when anyone approaches.

[He's given far too little for this whole 'meet someone in America' sort of thing that's been arranged for him by his sister. A name. A place. A time. She said something about 'someone who would not find you much stranger than you have always been' and 'might not find the back from the dead thing weird'.

Pietro doubted both of those things. But here he was, three states away from where he wanted to be, walking into some dive bar. How was he supposed to find this 'Dean'? Shouting the name would not really be his style.]

Dammit Wanda. I bet there isn't even a Dean here.

[There was a lot to be said for pissing off the Black Widow. One of those things was that no matter what you did, you always had to make it up to her, and Natalia had ways of making you regret having crossed her.

That said, Clint also was owed a solid by her too. So the question was just what this counted as. Revenge, or a debt being repaid. Clint didn't know yet. That's what blind dates were about. But at least she had chosen a place where Clint could potentially impress someone. Like here he was right now, in jeans to show off his awesome legs, and a tight but not too tight purple shirt with short sleeves to show off his amazing arms. And the rest of him? Being shown off by his skeeball skills.

You better bet every damn ball is in the highest pot. He's racking up so many points. At least his date will get a nice prize.]

[Probably best he doesn't use his ability, because it would be really awkward for Mark to accidentally trigger his own in response. Talk about headaches. As it was he smiled as they shook hands.]

Well, I mean, I could call dibs. Is that okay? Me calling dibs on this blind date, until such time as you feel like you need to go?
