Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

[okay, what about a nice burning super hero? I do enjoy aging Warren up to college and continuing his layers of 'omfg leave me alone' and 'nah it's okay i will be sage and supportive advice' dude into one. Plus if things get too forward, flustered dude could accidentally lead to burning table. That's awkward.]

[Pro-tip. If your friends are going to set you up on a blind date, make sure you manipulate things so that it's at the restaurant you work at because then you know all of the exits out to sneak away if the thing goes bad. That's clearly the best game plan, right?

So here he is, dressed to the nines (for him it's just a nice button up and his work slacks and a nice watch he's borrowing from a friend. He waits at the table in the back, the one with good sight lines that suit the slight paranoia that comes from being trained as a superhero, and nudges the candles on the table. Touch, burning. Touch, not burning. Over and over while he waits.]

['To the nines' for Iggy could mean so many things, all of them far more flamboyant than a mere dress shirt. He's built like a model and loves an aesthetic.

He enters the restaurant in all black - tight black turtleneck, black wide legged pants, oversized black coat, black boots. His rings are silver, as is the earring dangling from his left ear. His ginger curls bounce around his face as he approaches, smiling.]

[Oh. He's, uh, not what Warren was expecting.]

Yeah, I think I was. Wasn't expecting someone like you though.

Well, if you're Warren, I'm Iggy.

This is where you can lie and say you're someone else if you find me repulsive. [Said cheerfully.]

I'm definitely Warren.

[Repulsive? Warren shakes his head.]

Just not used to people who wouldn't roll their eyes at my normal way of dressing.

[dead_tongue]

You date a lot of snobs, then?

[He slips off his coat and sits down.]

I mean, people that don't really get the vibe. OR that sometimes the vibe is to keep them away if I don't want them around.

You pull it off though.

[He perches in his seat, friendly as can be.]

So! You hate blind dates. I can tell.

I, uh... Don't date much, if I'm honest. Not sure I have the patience for it some days.

[dead_tongue]

[Iggy nods.] Cool. Great thing to tell your date.

So were you tricked into this?

[Warren laughs because yeah, he gets how it sounds.]

It's not what you're thinking. I'm a college student, and I work a lot of hours on top of it, in food service. So, you know, pretty easy some days to just not want to go out and try and meet someone.

And no, it wasn't a trick. Just some friends trying to, you know, 'help'.

I'm a student, too. So I get that. It's hard to find time for dating.

Ahhh, yeah. Same. They think I should meet a 'nice' guy.

Being a student and having to deal with fussy customers who are being an ass for no reason, that can kill the energy to the point where looking for a love life is hard.

[Nice guy. Warren smirks at that and shakes his head.]

I'm probably not what was intended. Not a bad guy as it is, just, well, not someone people call 'nice' a lot.

Are you a waiter, or back in the kitchen?

I started as a busboy. I'm a waiter now. Better pay, more stupidity.

[It's something he adjusted to, but it means dating was harder to go about.]

Oh, that's good. At least you can get tips!

That doesn't mean you're not nice, though. Unless you're gonna tell me that you're actually a total jerk?

Yeah. Though plenty of people aren't big tippers.

[He shakes his head at the idea that he's a total jerk.]

No. I just don't suffer assholes.

[dead_tongue]

True.

Oh, well, that's probably fine then. You're very intense. People tell you that a lot? [Just... so cheerful.]

Yeah. It's a thing.

[He sighs, like he's frustrated by that. Like he doesn't know entirely how to escape that.]

I do try, most of the time.

It's not bad to be intense. Don't worry, I'm a Scorpio, you don't scare me.

[That earns a chuckle because he can't fathom what that has to do with anything. And it does bring a genuine smile to his face.]
