Blind Date Meme



Let's face it, sometimes it's difficult finding someone to share your time, and your heart (or maybe just your body), with. Luckily for you, you have well meaning friends. Unfortunately for you, you have well meaning friends who didn't tell you this was coming. That's right. They have taken it upon themselves (and no doubt friends of friends or family members or someone else who clearly doesn't know you) to arrange a date. Without telling you.

That's right. The dreaded blind date. Which means now you've got to get through at least a reasonable amount of time with a total stranger (or maybe not a stranger if you're particularly, well, we can't say if it's lucky or not) before you can reasonably escape. Maybe it will go well. Maybe this will be the start of the rest of your lives. Maybe you'll get laid. Maybe you'll have a horror story for the ages.

No matter what plays out, though, you're here. Might as well see just how your luck is going to play out.

How to Play

1. Post your character and canon below along with any preferences. Then go back and edit your comment with the next number in order (i.e. first TL is 1, second is 2, etc)

2. Tag other TLs. If a character isn't in normal preferences, ask if they might want a date that goes poorly instead!

3. Optionally, get yourself a truly blind experience by going here and randomly generating a number. Then find the matching TL (numbered back in step one) and enjoy your blind date.

4. For more fun, use the list in the first comment for randomized date locations!

Yes, I think it would be nice if I knew the people who were going to be there… And to know they wouldn’t be the kind of people to make a mess and leave you with it. I’ve seen that a lot over the years. It’s always a pain to clean up.

[ He sounds relieved, honestly, that Mark seemed of a similar mind about what kind of get together was nice. Taking a sip of soda, he smiled a little. ]

What about you? What is your ‘heart’s desire’ now?

[ He chuckled softly at that, taking a bit of a potato skin himself while he considered the actual answer. ]

That sounds nice. A chance to share your art with others, to be able to see how they experience it in a small gathering… Wouldn’t mind seeing that, myself.

[ Sigma added with a smile. It was a lovely dream and one that seemed possible. ]

It will take a while to get that though. I sort of have to actually impress someone at a gallery first. Be 'discovered' as it were.

That’s true, that would be challenging… But definitely worth trying.

[ It was a nice dream, after all. Something to bring something positive into the world, and it was clear by the way he talked about it that Mark really cared about his photography.

Though if he knew a little more about Mark, he could definitely understand not wanting to draw the wrong attention. ]

Have ever had your work displayed somewhere that those kinds of people might see it?

Nope. See, you've got to know someone there to make sure you get seen. I'm considering a website I guess.

Right… Making connections like that would be hard, too. [ But he smiled a little at the idea, picking another potato skin to eat. ] That’s a good idea. You’d be able to reach a wide range of people that way… And with the way people share things online, there’s a better chance that the right person might see it.

And a better chance people will steal it.

[Which was less of a thing when he was first in art school. He's learning how to make it all more secure though.]

Guess it's a weighing of good and bad and trying to figure out my future from that.

[ Sigma himself didn’t really know how easy or difficult making things more secure on the subject of art theft would be… Nor is he particularly skilled at making the right decision. It usually goes poorly. But Mark seems to have thoughts and ideas, at least, so he was further ahead there. ]

That’s true… I suppose they do say the things worth doing are always difficult. You seem to have taken things into consideration, though.

My sister said that, from time to time. She's a shrink so I think she's supposed to say it.

Is she? Hm… I’ve never known one, but perhaps that’s true. [ He offered a small smile. ] And whether she’s supposed to or not, I think it still sounds right.

Oh yeah, take her side.

[His tone is teasing and he grins at the other man before finishing his second drink.]

The potato skins doing it for you?

Hm… I suppose I am, but it's with the support of your artistic pursuits in mind.

[ He responded with a small, innocent grin. ]

Ah, they’re pretty good? A nice snack, though the salt is probably going to make me want something sweet later.

[ He ended with a little chuckle. ]

There's a froyo places nearby.

[It's a soft, gentle offer. Hopeful too.]

[ The offer gets a curious tilt of his head. Ending the night at potato skins seemed like a shame. He was enjoying this… And of the options of finding something sweet with someone he wanted to get to know vs. looking for something to eat on his own? This was the better one. ]

Is there? Hm… that sounds like it would be the perfect follow up to potato skins. So I would be game to try, if you are?

I would be really game to try it.

[In fact, he's smiling wider because the guy was willing to even consider it.]

I mean, I haven't been in there in a week or so, and they change the flavors daily, so I'm sort of lookint forward to it.

Great, then we’re both games.

[ He responded a genuine, pleased grin of his own. And for more than just the promise of frozen yoghurt, of course. ]

Do they? Then I guess we both try our luck on what flavours they have, huh?

That sounds like a delight. We could probably, you know, pay the tab and do that now.

Yeah? Well, if you’re finished with the potato skins, then I think we definitely could. I’ll just be a moment while I pay for it, and we can go.

[ He offered his agreement with a smile, finishing his soda and getting his wallet. ]

[Well that's a kind thing to offer. Mark smiles and finishes his last potato skin. This should be enough.]

I'm ready then.

[ While Mark does that, Sigma gets the bill settled and pockets his wallet again. ]

Great! I’ll let you lead the way, since you know where it is.

[ He added with a grin, getting the door and holding it open for Mark to pass through before him politely. ]

Yeah, that's the reasonable choice there.

[He smiles and heads out, making his way after the guy until he heads through the door. Once outside he heads down the sidewalk.]

Alright then, let's get moving.

[ Sigma smiled lightly, taking a breath once outside and the noise from the bar was muted and slowly fades as they walked away from it. He never minds the noise and the bustle, but there is something nice about being outdoors under an evening sky that is nice in its own way. ]

Let’s, you have me curious about what the selection will be like. [ He added, catching up to fall into step next to Mark and watching which way he went. Eyes glancing skyward, he continued a moment later quietly. ] And lucky for us, it seems like a nice night for a walk.

So they do the froyo in double batch makers. So one side might have pineapple coconut and the other could be mint chocolate and you can get them swirled together. It's super fun.

[It is a nice night for a walk. He smiles to himself because it's a better night than he could have expected actually. The guy was nice, he was polite, and he seemed to tolerate Mark. Those were all pluses.]

[ Sigma would be quick to correct Mark on the idea that he was merely tolerating him. The man had been around a lot of people who he’d admit to ‘tolerating’ out of necessity.

Mark didn’t count as one of them so far, he was enjoying his company just as much. It was… Nice getting to know someone new. Someone who didn’t know who he was, the things he could do, and the things he’d had to do. Someone who just wanted to spend time with him without expecting certain things out of him in return so they could be done with him. ]

Oh, that does actually sound like a fun way to try new things. Could get some interesting flavour combinations that way. [ Glancing sidelong at Mark with a little smile, he continued with a curious note. Yes, he still wanted to get to know the guy. Even in little ways like this. ] What kind of flavours do you like for these things, any go-to’s if they’re available?
